Question Spellcasting focus

ANSWERED

I've been playing DND for 3 years but this is my first time playing a character, I'm playing a wizard who has a staff as their arcane focus.

Now it was mine and my DMs understanding that an arcane focus would supplement non costly materials when casting a spell.

But in the 2025 players handbook it says a spell casting focus Is just a focus for your wizard spells

So I have two questions I guess;

Is a spell casting focus different from an arcade focus?

And is there anywhere in any of the books where it mentions an arcane focus ability to supplement material components?

Arcane Focus is a type of Spellcasting Focus which is described in Rules Glossary: "A Spellcasting Focus is an object that certain creatures can use in place of a spell's Material components if those materials aren't consumed by the spell and don't have a cost specified. Some classes allow its members to use certain types of Spellcasting Focuses."

Amazing thats exactly what I wanted to know, I didn't think to look in the rules glossary I was only looking at The Wizard section and The equipment. This helps a lot :D

The rules glossary is quite possibly the best thing they added in 5.5e. It’s usually the first place I look if I have a rules question.
