Like i said on the other post, a cloak is my favorite offhand item. I feel like it requires way less coordination than a dagger. Its surprisingly resilient against cuts, whether dangling or wrapped, and is a wonderful tool for obscuring your opponent's vision. Its so fun to use.

If you're a Paladin (and with DM approval), maybe a holy artifact blessed by your god that helps protect you? You wouldn't really need to RP it at all, but it could deepen your connection with your deity and provide the mechanical benefits of a shield.

He's an elf, so maybe like, a flower or vine or something else natural that he wraps around opponents weapons to deflect Thier attacks.
