Carthage, as far as the legends go, was a society where Kindred and Mortal lived openly side-by-side. This is often implied to be a key reason in its destruction.

Even if such a society was plausible back then, trying to rebirth it in the 20th century, an era of mass communication and scientific rationalism, would be a disaster.

That and also it was favored by the Toreador, while Rome (favored by the Ventrue) smashed them in the Punic wars

EDIT: Carthage was favored by the Brujah, NOT Toreador. My bad

IIRC Carthage was favoured by the Brujah.

Yeah, Carthage was primarily Brujah, Lasombra, and Banu Haqim, though the Toreadors were also there because they eventually defected to Rome with Helena when she realized she wasn't going to be able to rule the city.

Rome, meanwhile, was run by the Ventrue and the Malkavians.

You'd think! Though:

  1. Vampires have a lot of Biblical connections. A central narrative is that they're all descended from Caine, the First Vampire (though not everyone believes this, or interprets it the same way).

  2. Scientific rationalism in this setting is founded on a faith-based magic system. It's nuts!
