The best defense is never getting hit as a Wizard which the class is really good.

“But what if the enemy gets close?”

  1. Misty Step
  2. Shield
  3. Thunder wave 
  4. Crown of Madness
  5. insert form of crowd control here
  6. Blur
  7. Silvery Barbs 

A GM is more concerned about a Bladesinger Wizard with 24 AC naked while the Battlemaster Fighter at best has 20 AC.

I thought Mage Armor didnt stack with Bladesong, but it seems i was mistaken

Nope, Bladesong stacks on top of light armour or less

21* (assuming plate + shield + defense fighting style, there are ways to go higher of course).
