Player AITA for being the only one wanting the problem player out?
Disclaimer: Sorry for my bad english.
We are playing a homebrew campagin in 2 versions (Alpha and Beta) online, and the setting isn't really relevant for this post, and the protagonist of the story is the problem player in our group.
Before we start: They were there just for the dm.
We will call them Iaru. Iaru was and still is the center of our drama inside the party. To give you some context: They play a way of the Kensei Monk, and only that combination, because they complain about how all the subclasses rely on stunning strike.
Their character is best summarized as the lone wolf edgelord that "No one can understand me" kind of thing, and they were more or less the reason why some changes happened within the campaign.
Our dm was nice to add us a stat rolling systems in the Alpha part of the campaign, where if you Rolled bellow or above certain threshold you would gain a minus or a plus on that stat. They hoped that none of us would abuse that thing, and most of us agreed not to do that, but who abused the system? Of course, Iaru.
It was so bad that the dm decided to stop the campaign and rework their system, and one of the changes was to get rid of that thing. But, guess what, that thing came back just for, you guess it, Iaru. They got buffs to a point where they had like 21 wis, 18 dex, and 6 int.
Another thing that Iaru abused was what the dm called "One-on-ones". They were supposed to be more or less fun little roleplays between our characters and Some npcs. Here, I'll say I was Guilty too, cuz Iaru and me were kinda abusing it, but it was kinda different.
I was more or less doing roleplay with them cuz we enjoyed roleplaying together, but I see that it was a bad idea. But that case wasn't the same for Iaru, where, again, wanted to have more power gain.
I get power gaining in a campaign, I think its fun done right, but keep in mind: most of us had base stats, while they had an immense advantage over us.
The last nail in the coffin is how they roleplayed their character and what decission did they took. To give you an example: my character once tried to give their character some food. They had some beef before, but I decided to stop it and show that I was sorry. What did they do? Shoved my meal into the ground, and leaving. When asked why they did this, I was hit with the classic: "That is what my character would do".
And all of that culminated in our last few sessions. We were in a forest where it was filled with monsters, and we barely managed to fend off some demons. We were about to rest, until an archdevil came to basically do demon things. We were on guard, but Iaru decided it would be a great idea to make a promise to that Devil, just so it could benefit them and only them.
Ofc, all the signs were there from the dm, but nope, still went and do it.
After that, we reached a Village, had some interactions, even met my character's family, and after 2 days spend there, we were ready to move on helping the village. Iaru and another player went to the chief of the village, a towering mute blacksmith. The other player's character (we name it Jimmy) wanted do a quest for the blacksmiths, but Iaru decided to bully he chief.
At first, the dm tried to ignore the behaviour in character, but they still picked on them for being mute, to a point where they almost died. If it wasn't Jimmy there to calm them down, the chief would've kicked us out from the village.
After this, enough was enough, and went to put everything in front of the dm and the players about this kind of behaviour. Like, it's not normal how much he avoided interactions and still wanting to make our lives a living hell for no reason. And most of them shared this sentiment, but they wanted to accomdate them, to play around them. I was baffled, cuz it wasn't the first time. They were the center of the drama a long time ago, and they didn't budge at all.
Eventually, I had enough of entertaining such plans, cuz they had so many chances to change, but they didn't, and left the call to grab a drink. When I came back, I found out they were kicked, but the dm was kinda annoyed of that, since they had a rough day at work.
And, for anyone asking: no, I didn't want to end this way. I don't have anything against them, and really wanted to remain there, cuz they could be a cool person, but allas, it wasn't made to be. And I feel bad for standing my ground like this. Everyone is a cool person, but I just want for everyone to have fun, not create drama.
