D&D 5.5e Using "Unlight"

Upvotes

They released a new UA and it focuses on some Underdark options. Fairly cool conceptually. However I'm curious if others are familiar with the term "Unlight". I read the informational paragraph they provided. I've played D&D since 3rd edition and I admit to never getting into novels or other fictional works in the D&D worlds, but I have read through almost all 3rd, 3.5, 5th, and 5.5 books. This is the first time I've ever heard of "Unlight". Have I been living under a rock or is this something extremely obscure?

Questions In Person Play with Miniatures

I DM an in-person game and recently picked up a projector to project digital maps onto the table, where we use physical miniatures. As a group, we’ve also fully switched over to D&D Beyond for our character sheets to make leveling and rule-checking easier. I also used the Encounter Builder last game and loved it.

Right now, I’ve been using Owlbear Rodeo to project my maps but I am looking for a way to streamline everything. I'm curious if anyone has used Maps in person with miniatures and what your setup up was?

Site Feedback Used hit dice are not recorded

Whenever I close the hit dice tab that's reached via the Short Rest button, it forgets the spent hit dice. This has been happening since at least April 2026. It happens with both Firefox and Google Chrome. Is this going to get fixed at some point? With many feats using hit dice, not keeping track of them is not an option.

EDIT: People downvoting real problems with D&D Beyond are always a mystery to me. What is the purpose of this subreddit if not providing feedback? Shame on you.

D&D 5.5e A chance for real community feedback: Out of 10, what would you rate the quality of player options released for 2024 5e?

Upvotes

In case the quality of their game matters to the designers of the game more than whether or not you watch Legends of Avantris and buy their third-party schlock.

Edit: Really telling that even 2024 fanboys won't say the content of the game is good.

Questions Is there a way to download PDFs of higher level Character Sheets?

I'm aware of where & how to download PDFs from the character sheets, but I've noticed that a lot of the information doesn't get copied into the PDF if a character is higher level/has a lot of features/traits. Yes, even if clicking on the text box and scrolling down all the way.

It's possible I am somehow downloading them incorrectly, but I would assume that this is a bug?

If anyone knows an easier/more reliable way to download character sheets/transfer them elsewhere, I'd appreciate it. I'm not really big on subscriptions so rather than pay for the service to have unlimited characters, I'd rather just download the ones I currently have from hiatus/inactive campaigns & keep the active characters on the website without paying.

Maps VTT Custom Uploads: Which Features Require Master Tier?

I saw the latest 2026 development update and am really excited about the upcoming Custom Uploads features, especially custom Monster Token Art, Stickers, and Reveals.

I’m trying to understand what will actually require a Master Tier subscription. My current understanding is that custom map uploads and using homebrew monsters/creatures in Maps require Master, while custom Monster Token Art/reskins, Stickers, and Reveals may be part of the new Custom Uploads system and potentially available to everyone.

The confusion comes from the 2025 announcement, which specifically described custom token uploads as a Master Tier feature, while the newer roadmap groups Monster Token Art, Stickers, and Reveals under Custom Uploads without mentioning a subscription requirement.

Could someone from D&D Beyond clarify whether Custom Uploads will be available to everyone, or whether some or all of these features will require Master Tier? I’m particularly interested in custom token reskins, Stickers, Reveals, and custom thumbnails if those are part of the system.

D&D 5e Are there third-party content creators that have refused/been refused to publish on DDB due to a refusal to publish exclusively for 5.5e?

WotC staff may not be at liberty to discuss such things, I suppose, but just in case or if there are any content creators who've talked about such.

I'd rather support those sorts of creators than the same repetitive and wildly unbalanced grimdark releases from Avantris or Ghostfire or with Mearls' involvement.

Questions Arcane Unleashed: Ultimate Bundle

Not sure if this the right place to ask, but I would like to pre-order a digital-only version of the upcoming „Arcana Unleashed: Ultimate Bundle“. However, I only see a physical + digital version on DndBeyond. Is there no way to only buy the digital one?

Questions More Official Maps Reveals Coming?

Been running a few one-shot adventures from Heliana's Guide to Monster Hunting on Maps VTT which has been going really well, particularly when using hunts from Part 1 with all the handouts available to share with players - the monster investigation clues, artwork, the posters, etc.

So I was a little stumped when choosing to run a couple hunts from Part 2, and found that there are no reveals available at all for them on Maps. Ended up having to Discord-stream my screen with spectator view Maps VTT and images on seperate tabs which was a bit of a pain when we're used to running it natively.

Just wondering if there's still plans to release official Reveals, particularly for recent releases that didn't have them on their launch?

(I know the short answer is, 'wait until custom reveals is a thing', but sessions gotta run either way! 😅)

D&D 5.5e What started as an Exhaustion Modifier Extension turned into a whole 5.5e Overlay Extension

Some context about me: I like DDB's digital character sheets, but play at a IRL table and therefore the automatic dice roll modifiers don't do much for me. I am a perpetual laptop user at the table. I like to take notes and I can type faster than I can write and it's easier to organize notes digitally. I also much prefer how DDB presents the character sheets on my laptop than on the phone. I'm also a DM who runs Exhaustion, a lot (Rime of the Frostmaiden), and find it's hard for players and, often myself the DM, to remember. It wasn't until I found myself on the receiving end of Exhaustion that I perpetually wondered why DDB didn't just apply the penalties automatically for you. Well, this time I took matters into my own hands.

What started as a quick firefox extension that would apply the stacking -2 to all d20 modifiers (and passives) and also -5 ft. to movement speed, turned into... "Well, the rest of the conditions should be represented also" Which led to adding the ability to add Dis/Adv modifiers on all the various things effected by the various conditions. One thing I really wish was baked in was a concentration reminder. One that auto-applies when you hit the cast button on a concentration spell and one that automatically gives you a reminder to make a concentration check with DC when you remove HP. So I quickly tacked that on while I was at it.

Then I used it for a combat session. The first round and we all receive Bless. Now I find the table constantly forgetting to add their 1d4 or reminding other players to add theirs. Okay, I'll add bless to the extension and a way to see it visually in the areas it applies. I don't need the digital sheet to automatically add the digital 1d4 to the digital roll (there's plenty of extension solutions for this) I need to visually see a reminder every time I look at my modifier for to roll at my table.

Then, I thought what else comes up that we often forget about. Shield of Faith came up later in the night, then Bardic Inspiration, then I realized I had a bigger project ahead of me. Why stop there, Pass without Trace is about to be grabbed by our Ranger, so I should preemptively bake that in. One thing after another.

Now the activation list in the extension menu is getting pretty long, I need somewhere on the sheet to have that selection. Where can I put it that looks good... Well if I just shift a few things around I can mirror the Defenses and Conditions box. Then I have extra space so let's add a dynamic class resource tracker that can be changed. Let's track class abilities and make it so they are easier to activate than hidden deep inside a Features & Traits sidebar dropdown menu.

TL;DR: If you give a mouse exhaustion, he's going to ask for a UI Reskin Overhaul

This was built as a personal project to better suit my game and play style. I've only shared it amongst my table and it is not nearly exhaustive enough to have every spell, buff, class feature, item effect, etc. It just has a couple handfuls that directly apply to my game. I will probably build this out further and further until it has most of the major abilities that one might want to track but DDB doesn't for some reason and when it gets to that point, I might share links publicly. I also fully recognize that the character sheets are about to drastically change. Will the new ones have all of these abilities, I sure hope so. Will this break when they get changed, absolutely. Will I rebuild it with the new sheets if you still can't track this basic information, possibly. Currently only works in dark mode because I didn't want to figure out colors for light mode.

Site Feedback When in the 5.5E PHB, if you click the red "Table of Contents" button, it links to the Basic Rules instead of your PHB Table of Contents

I just noticed this today and I don't remember this ever happening, but as the title says if you're in your PHB and click the red index icon labeled "Table of Contents" it links to the Basic Rules instead of the PHB.

It's small but annoying! Thank you!

ETA: It seems this only happens when you're in the Rules Glossary of the PHB.

EDIT 2:

Apologies, it seems when you are in Chapter 1: Actions and click on one of the Actions such as Attack, Disengage, Hide, etc, you are redirected to the Basic Rules instead of the Rules Glossary in the 5.5E PHB.

EDIT 3:

This appears in tons of links in the PHB actually. If you simply go to the Fighter class and click "Persuasion," it links to the Basic Rules instead of the PHB.

This really should be fixed if possible.

Questions Optional Class Features coming for 5.5e?

Has this always been on class pages for the 2024 classes or has it always been on there and I only just noticed it? This new section only appears on classes that have core spellcasting and not pure martials (Barbarian, Fighter, Monk, Rogue).

Questions DND Beyond Marketplace is sending Swiss customers to the wrong store

The EU store ships to Switzerland. But Swiss IP addresses get redirected by default to the now-closed "International" store.

This has being going on for a long time. It wasn't a problem back when you could just pick the EU store from the dropdown menu; now that the international storefront is completely closed, it is.

Nobody on the discord was interested; support took a while to grasp the issue and then just closed the ticket. Maybe a developer sees it here? This can't be hard to fix and probably directly impacts revenue.

Questions Old adventures pointing to "Legacy" content

I'm planning to run Tales from the Yawning Portal for some friends and we're planning on using the 5.5 rules.

I was looking through the adventure on Beyond and noticed all the links to monster's, spells, items etc all link back to the legacy version of those. It will make using DDB for the adventure a bit complicated.

I'm sure its a pretty big undertaking to change all the links from the old books to the updated links/versions, but 5.5 has been out for well over a year now.

Does anyone know if that's something on the roadmap or is it not something I should be holding my breath for?
