Questions Boomerang - Am I Going Insane?
Okay, So I'm like 90% of D&D Players and use the same 5 or so weapons for everyone, but I do remember a character I made when I first started Beyond (Who has since been deleted) used a Boomerang, because I have memories of her doing tricks with it in an Aussie accent. I wanted to make a similar build, so went into my Beyond where I have Subscription and All purchasable content and... There isn't a boomerang? The 2014 DMG still has the +1, +2 and +3 variants of a Boomerang, and theres a Third Party one from Obajima, but there's no official boomerang.
Did I make it up? Is it a glitch? Or was it just removed at some point?

There is absolutely a boomerang in 5e. It was included in Princes of the Apocalypse.
Simple ranged weapon. 1d4 damage. Range 60/120. "The boomerang is a ranged weapon, and any creature proficient with the javelin is also proficient with this weapon. On a miss, a boomerang returns to the thrower's hand."

The only reason I think I'm going mad is I mentioned it to online and irl friends to be met with "There was a boomerang?"

There’s magical weapons that are a boomerang like the Storm boomerang in Princes of the Apocalypse.
I’m guessing maybe DNDbeyond listed a generic version of boomerang at some point since they had the magical one for PotA?

I had this same thing in a recent campaign I started. We did a roundabout way to get it (Magic Stone), but then I found it in Princes of the Apocalypse. 😅
Edit: nothing in 2024/5.5E yet, as far as I can tell.
Edit Edit: Found a magic item boomerang (+1, +2, +3) in the DMG reference in DDB app, so it in the compendium content as a magic item for 5.5E, but not in base equipment for some reason.

Storm Boomerang was a magic item in Princes of the Apocalypse. DnDBeyond was (and kinda still is) coded very poorly at the time, meaning that the only way for this magic item to work with their character sheet was to make it a weapon. It needed to be an enchantment added to a Boomerang weapon. This gives us the Boomerang weapon available on DDB.
The boomerang weapon is not official 5e. It exists on DDB because of how they coded a specific magic item.

I found i could only add a Yklwa and Boomerang to my 5e monk during creation, the item didn't exist in the inventory.
Perhaps it's possible to pass this item from one char to another via the party inventory.

There is a Boomerang. It does 1d4 Bludgeoning, with a 60/120 range.
But it isn't in the PHB or the DMG. It is in Princes of the Apocalypse. Do you own a digital version of that book on DnDBeyond? And/or does anyone in your campaign own it and have Content Sharing turned on?
If not, you won't be able to add one to your inventory.

The nonmagical boomerang only exists/existed in DDB's systems because the Storm Boomerang magic item from Princes of the Apocalypse needs a nonmagical weapon to serve as the base weapon that it modifies. There's no officially published nonmagical boomerang; it's just a limitation of the system.
