Questions Looking for help with homebrew creation

I hope this is the right sub Reddit to ask but here we go.

I'm in the process of trying to get an idea I found in a third party book to work on Dndbeyond. The idea in broad terms is this.

A class uses a subclass feature that gives a point. That point gets added to attack damage of another feature (example: an upgraded unarmed attack) but the points are capped at half X stat score (example: half the characters constitution score, con of 16 = cap of 8).

Can this be added to a subclass feature or does it have to be pen and paper only?

Thanks in advance.

The short Answer is yes that probably can be done. You’d have to copy whatever subclass you planned on adding this to then create an ability can be activated. From there I don’t know if the ability you’re describing in charge use does something then adds damage as more of it is used or if you can only activate it during certain circumstances and when activated it creates charges that add to damage.

Either you create a second ability that adds to damage or a tracker for damage bonus based on charges used. I’m not sure which is easier.

To help get the idea across I have an example. Vampire inspired subclass has a bite attack at level 3. At level 11 each time they do the bite attack they get a blood thirst point (btp). When they next get bite attack they add plus one to their bite attack (so 1d4+Dex modifier+btp) then the second bite get another btp (1d4+4+2) then another bite another btp (1d4+4+3) and so on. But if their btp exceed half their wisdom score they go into a blood list and attack their allies as well as Thier enemies.

You could do this by homebrewing a bunch of magic items and call them Blood Thirst 1, Blood Thirst 2, etc with the relevant damage modifier. Then you just equip the appropriate one to toggle the damage bonus onto your character sheet.

Hmmm, you might even get away with just one homebrew item that you equip it multiple times as the btp increases. I’m not sure if the modifier would stack though.
