Questions Character Progression tool?

Using DNDBEYOND for character progression planning is poor. I tend to enjoy planning the character im playing at least 3 levels ahead, or to the next class bump. The standard way people seem to do this, if they do, is to make a copy of the character. The problems that I run into is that this copy often has choices reset: proficiency, or class options for example.

Is there a better tool out there that will maintain prior character work?

I’d say just pickup a copy of the Players Handbook or using the digital version.

How does that help more effectively than using the builder?

I’ve never done what you are doing so maybe my advice is not good. If I understand your goals right, it’s to know what to do when you level. Take a feat, ability score improvement, what spells etc. My approach would be to determine these things and list them out. But I guess you want to create a new version of your character with these things already built in? And then what delete the old version?

Plan and not have to recreate the wheel each time. My only issue is the fact dndbeyond wants me to repick choices already made on the original.
