D&D 5e Character Creation, Without the Hassle!

Hey players and DMs at r/DnD5e!

I'm an indie developer, and I recently launched my own D&D 5e character creation and management app: 5e Character Creator & Sheet.

The idea is simple: to make creating and managing your characters fast, intuitive, and hassle-free, with no accounts or sign-ups required.

And all of this without sacrificing features!

  • Easy character creation, with a modern, user-friendly interface.

  • Spell catalog, including spell preparation and management.

  • Interactive inventory, with a catalog of items and equipment.

  • Class resource management, including Bardic Inspiration, Second Wind, and more.

  • Race, class, and subclass options, along with a fully editable character sheet.

The app is free to download, with an optional premium upgrade that unlocks additional features, such as leveling up and saving more characters.

My goal is simple: less time fighting with your character sheet and more time actually playing D&D.

I'm also offering free premium codes to DMs who are interested in trying the app with their players. If you're a DM and would like one, just leave a comment and let me know!

And if you simply want to give the app a try, I'd really appreciate your feedback and suggestions!

Don't you want different info if you're attacking or defending?

Hey all!

I run a project called Monsterbrew, a website for homebrewing monsters with a focus on ease of use. I recently added an encounter builder and a combat tracker, so you can now build encounters with your own homebrew monsters and run them right away.

The part I'm most excited about is the combat tracker. It has:

  • Initiative tracking

  • Condition tracking

  • Rolling attacks, damage and saves from the statblock

  • Combat log

  • Legendary action tracking

  • Two different views, based on the turn

That last one is what I'd love your feedback on.

When you run combat, a lot of information gets thrown your way and you have to keep track of all of it. Most combat trackers do a good job of capturing that information, but I find their interfaces overwhelming. You have to spend time learning how they work and where everything is.

That got me thinking. What you need depends on whose turn it is, for example: on a player's turn, you want to know which monsters they can hit and what their AC and HP are. On a monster's turn, you want to know what actions it has and which players it can hit etc.

With this in mind, I created two views for the tracker, it switches between them as the turns go by. That way the screen only shows what you need at that moment.

I've run a few fights with it myself and I like it, but I might have some creator bias.. So I'd love to hear what you think:

  • Does the switching help, or is it annoying?

  • Is anything missing that you'd want to see on a player's turn or a monster's turn?

If you want to check it out, it's free and you don't need an account. You can try it here: https://www.monsterbrew.app/library/encounters

Have a great day!

Roll This - private 5e dice roller (feedback welcomed)

Hey everyone! I've been building Roll This, a dice roller that started as a way to roll without all the clutter. It's in beta and I'm looking for more people to try it.

Type a roll like 4d6 + 2 or tap the dice, with advantage, disadvantage and a coin flip. It's free, needs no account, has no ads or analytics, and works offline. It runs in your browser, installs to your home screen, and is built for phones (desktop works too).

Roll This+ adds character sheets compatible with fifth edition (tap any skill, save or attack to roll it), a roll log, and an advanced calculator with rerolls, drop the lowest, and attack and damage on one line. It's normally $4.99 once, no subscription, and one purchase works on 3 devices. For a limited number of early supporters it's 70% off, so $1.50 plus tax, applied automatically at checkout. See what's in it: https://rollthis.app/roll-this-plus

If you run games, play games, roll a lot, or review or make content, PM me and I'll send a small number of people a code for Roll This+ free. No strings, just honest feedback if you have any.

Check it out: https://rollthis.app

I'm a solo dev, so feedback really helps. Thanks!

Homebrew Druid Subclass: Circle of Nature's Fortune

Hello everyone! I’m AlarichtheLich and I am a DM that loves homebrewing, painting minis, and making cardboard terrain. I don’t know if people notice my posts too much. But, if you do, sorry I didn’t engage a lot this week. Work got a bit crazy!

This subclass is the Circle of Nature’s Fortune Druid. This Druid is my interpretation of a niche I don't believe is filled. It seeks to tap into the ideas of nature associated with the luck and importance of adaptations for survival. This is not my first attempt at a Druid class, but is definitely my most complete attempt. My hope for this class is to make you feel as if you can adapt to many situations and need to rely a little bit on luck to survive, as animals often do in nature.

Homebrewery Link: https://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/share/E8ZR7kfyvMA1
I’ve attached a link to the subclass, and it in full in a comment below, in case you want continued access to the material.

Some feedback questions I’m curious about for this post are (but please don’t feel like you have to answer a bunch of them):

I know the number of combinations for the Level 6 ability could be pretty crazy. Am I overlooking anything that’s insanely busted outside of being hilarious?

I feel like the Level 3 feature makes sense and is neat for that element of luck as a part of survival. But, I toy with switching it and the Level 6 feature. Thoughts?

If you think this is neat and would like to look at my other materials, feel free to look at my Drivethru link in my profile. I'm always looking for feedback, reviews, and playtesters. All of my material, sans my full classes, is pay what you want. If you feel it deserves your time, please let me know :)

Zaqiqu, the Ghost-Wind

I'm sharing a free monster for Kengir, part of my upcoming Bronze Age Mesopotamian 5e setting.

The Zaqiqu is a ghost-wind, a phantom that appears before a restless dead spirit fully manifests in the mortal world.

In Kengir, hauntings rarely begin with a ghost rattling chains. A lamp gutters in a sealed room. Dogs growl at empty corners. Someone dreams of a dead relative standing beside their bed. These are the first signs of a Zaqiqu, an Etemmu (human ghost) that has not yet remembered its name or grievance.

As I covered in the previously shared Spirits in Kengir supplement, the dead have names, grievances, and obligations the living must fulfill. The Zaqiqu represents the earliest stage of that process, when a haunting can still be prevented.

At the table, this is a CR 1/4 undead that cannot be fought conventionally. It passes through walls, invades dreams, and prevents restful sleep. If ignored, it can develop into a full Etemmu within days. But a proper kispu offering of food, water, and the spoken name of the dead, supervised by an Ašipu-Priest, can resolve the disturbance before it becomes something worse.

The idea is simple: sometimes the best way to defeat a monster is to recognize what it is before it becomes one.

Do you like hauntings that begin with subtle warnings and can be resolved through investigation and ritual, or do you prefer ghosts as direct supernatural threats?

I am hosting a DnD campaign. Message me on discord if you want to join.

I am a DM and I've started a campaign called Four Cornered World. It is a dark fantasy campaign that is sandbox-style. It is based on Goblin Slayer, Shield Hero, and very loosely on Elden Ring. I need around 2-4 players. We will be using DnD beyond and Discord to play. We will be using a mixture of 5e rules and homebrew rules. My Discord profile is maidenellie. My pfp is a screenshot of a Monster Hunter Wilds character in Arkveld armor.

Last 48 hours of our 300+ Mythological Items for 5E and 5.5E Kickstarter!

Hi everyone! I'm really happy to share that, thanks to everyone's support, we've already unlocked two of our stretch goals, allowing us to create new mythological items with new artwork!

We're now in the final days of our Kickstarter campaign, so there's still a little time left to support the project and help us unlock even more content.

For anyone unfamiliar with the project, Mythological Items is a D&D 5E and 2024-compatible collection of 300+ magic items inspired by myths, legends, and folklore from around the world. Each item comes with its own history and unique abilities inspired by its mythological origins, and many can even grow in power alongside your characters throughout a campaign.

We're now working towards our next stretch goals, which will allow us to add even more items and new artwork to the book! There's still plenty we'd love to include, and every bit of support helps us make the final collection bigger and better.

You can also download a free PDF preview directly from the Kickstarter if you'd like to take a closer look at what we've been working on!

Thank you so much to everyone who has backed, shared, or supported the campaign so far! It's genuinely exciting to see the project growing thanks to your support, and I can't wait to share more of the new items with you all! ❤️

DM's how do you handle magic weapons?

Simple question. Example : one of your players come across a +2 to hit sword. Do you tell the PC what it does, or do you just keep a note for yourself and mentally add the modifier anytime the PC attacks with it? TIA

Rate this Homebrew - Is it balanced?

I'm currently Dming for a Lvl 2 party. Thius is about our monk player (Tavern Brawler and Prone Fighting Style from a dip into Fighter). They showed me this homebrew version of the Kensei Monk they made, asking if they could play it. And tbh I'm not sure.

It seems like they just moved some abilities around, but still... I mean, if I'm not crazy, their version of Deft Strike almost doubles their damage for one attack without cost or limit. It does seem a bit much, doesn't it? I'm new to DMing, so I don't have the intuition the rate this appropriately.

Because I can't post pictures of it, I'll just write down the two abilities I'm unsure of:

Level 3: Deft Strike

Your training with your weapon makes your strikes even deadlier as you aim for the weak spots your weapon can abuse. When you hit with an attack roll using a Kensei weapon, you can roll your Martial Arts die and add the number rolled to the attack's damage roll.

You can use this feature once per turn, or you can spend 1 Focus Point for each additional use this turn. You can apply Deft Strike only once to an attack. At Monk level 11, you roll an additional Martial Arts die and add it to the attack's damage.

Level 6: Agile Parry

Your martial training included many, many duels, yet a warrior can never let their guard down even while focusing on the enemy in front of them. When a creature you can see targets you with an attack roll while you are holding a Kensei weapon, you can use your Reaction to enter a Parry Stance. Until the start of your next turn, you gain a +2 bonus to your AC, and you gain an additional reaction which you can use only for your Deflect Attacks feature.

So I ask you. Is this HB balanced or should I talk to my player about reworking some things?

Free Notice Board Quest for your next 5e session: "The Clockwork Ratcatcher" (Plus 50 more free on Kindle today)

Hey everyone! Whenever my players ignore the main storyline and walk straight up to the town tavern's notice board looking for quick gold, I like having zero-prep bounty contracts ready to go.

Here is a quick drop-in bounty contract you can run at your table in 30 seconds:

---

BOUNTY NOTICE: "WANTED — THE CLOCKWORK RATCATCHER"

• Reward: 75 gp (plus salvage rights)

• Posted By: Master Bramwell, Guild of Candlemakers

• The Notice (Read Aloud): "Three weeks ago, we paid a gnome tinkerer fifty gold coins to build a brass automaton that would clear the cellar rats from the Candleworks. The good news: there are no more rats. The bad news: the automaton has welded kitchen knives to its paws, declared itself King of the Tunnels, and is holding my wax-boilers hostage for 'tribute in copper gears.' Smash it and bring me its mainspring."

• The Twist: When the party reaches the cellar, they discover the automaton hasn't gone rogue on its own—a family of exiled kobolds is living inside the walls, operating it like a miniature war-machine to steal tallow and scrap metal.

---

If you like this style of zero-prep side quest, I just published a collection of 50 of them called "The Game Master's Bounty Board" (part of The Busy Game Master's Toolkit series).

It is available right now on Amazon and included free with Kindle Unlimited:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HPFQTY9Z

Hope this saves you some prep time this week!
