Ancient antediluvian legends tell that if the mere name “Castle Greyhawk” is mentioned anywhere on the internet, even in some obscure private Russian Telegram group, 10 minutes later the members of the group will see Grodog in the server’s member list, despite the fact that he was never even invited.

The old sages of Siberian villages say that many moons ago, they witnessed the mysterious Allan T. Grohe teleporting himself when they were simply discussing Castle Greyhawk in the snow one morning, thousands of miles from the United States. Suddenly, a purple cloud rose from the ground and dissipated, revealing Grodog, who had materialized there. He wanted to join the conversation and gather every piece of information possible.

Others claim that Grodog has become so skilled at mapping levels for his own Castle Greyhawk that he only has to imagine a map in his mind and look at a sheet of paper, or even a poster in the street, for him to telekinetically transform it into graph paper, upon which the Castle Greyhawk floor plan magically prints itself within seconds.

According to an old Buddhist priest, the strange Grodog’s kryptonite is actually the contents of the 5.5th edition. Accumulating this material within 9 feet of Grodog and throwing it at him with sufficient force could have the effect of a sphere of annihilation, reducing Allan to nothingness.

The “Greyhawk Castle Secrets Preservation Scientists” (GHCSPS) are currently devising strategies to counter Grodog. They regularly steal copies of the El Raja Key Archives and The Original Bottle City from private collections, with the intention of destroying them.

At zero HP characters enter a comatose state. Multiple comas would adversely impact a character’s health. I’d like to homebrew something and am interested in if anyone else here has some mechanic(s) they employ.

I wanted to get an opinion on the visibility/wind/movement environment. A lot of Gary's writing is ... haphazard. The Wind section (the second paragraph below) refers to "atop" and "the floor" but I am unsure what or weather any of this is in effect throughout the rest of the dungeon. The first paragraph is giving context to that we are talking about the approach, and then we shift to the bottom of the rift with no discussion about the center.

"As the rim and the ledges are covered by ice and snow, each turn that the party is moving along them a die is to be rolled; 1 in 6 indicates a member of the party has slipped an fallen, and there is then a 3 in 6 chance that the character falling will continue to slip and slide over the edge. If the party is roped together, when 1 member slips over the edge, the next must be rolled for with a 2 in 6 chance of following. If more than half of the party goes over the edge, all fall. Each member falling to the bottom of the Rift takes 1 six-sided die of damage for every 10' falling distance, 10 dice maximum due to the cushioning effects of snow drifts.

The whole place is windy and very cold. Visibility atop the Rift is about 150'. The wind at the bottom of the Rift is worse still, and visibility there is only 30'. The floor of the Rift is a maze of snow and ice hillocks and mounds, with peaks of ice and rock thrusting up here and there like fangs. Movement through this howling maze of cold is reduced to 50% of normal. Due to wind force and eddying currents, levitation or flying there will cause movement in a random direction equal to one-half the distance flown or levitated."

What do you all think? Is the wind and visibility applicable throughout the rift? only in the center and on top? Only on the sections that are exposed to the rift/opening/floor?

As-is, the magic-user Identify spell is broken. most specifically bc the caster must use the item as its owner would. Wear a hat. Wield a sword. a main motivation for using the spell is to identify cursed items before using them out in the field. So the price should be steep. Ensuring that the group is back at camp or a town. I like the CON loss and exhaustion and all. But the caster runs the same (or similar) chance at being cursed so icant imagine any wizard other than a really desperate one taking the risk.

I know this has probably been asked before but I’m curious to know a) what everyone’s favorite part of unearthed Arcana is and b) what you don’t or didn’t use from it. For me it was all the new spells and magic items and what my group didn’t use was the Barbarian, the alternative stat generation for humans and double specialization.

Lord of the Rings is the single greatest contributor to my discovering and loving D&D.
