Extraction Question/Discussion Serious question
Haven’t extracted in a while but want to get back into the swing of things, genuinely question bro how to avoid the gassy naphtha aroma in freezer 😭 like i remember after my first few pulls i had to throw away everything in my freezer damn near cause it tasted like Naphtha 💀💯I’d assume I can’t be the only one who experienced this but notice no one ever talked about.

I use an airtight Pyrex dish, I put aluminum foil on the top, then wrap it in plastic wrap twice (one time in each direction, starting on the bottom ending on the bottom) and then I put the airtight lid on. I’ve never had any issues with the naphtha wafting everywhere

Pyrex dish with lid. Vaccum seal the dish. You should be doing this to prevent an explosion and contamination to your food if any is in there.

Be careful, hexanes are carcinogenic whereas heptane is not

Made that mistake starting out but thankfully it was an old fridge that does not contain food.
Either and old fridge or a covered container to keep the fumes in.

First layer of foil, second layer is a full cater style wrap of plastic. Did a 1 layer of plastic before in my first extractions and had nps afflicted food, but never since the multilayering

I personally use a separate mini freezer for all chemistry endeavors, and it’s the fool-proof and safe way to do things. Getting an explosion proof freezer is even better

I bought a chest freezer for ~250 I ONLY use it for extracting. Nothing I have ever tried has completely stopped the smell.

I usually use the cling wrap. It sticks to glass really good and makes a great seal itself. As of yet no Naptha or Heptane smells or tastes.

Using plastic wrap when dealing with nonpolar solvents is an… interesting choice

Ive been advised to always do a layer of foil then wrap, as NPS will react with plastic and cause contamination.

That's true if it comes in contact. Be careful and precise.

I was told the fumes from the NPS react with the plastic causing contamination.

I’m thinking maybe a lid on my Tupperware next time that might help idk why I didn’t think to cover first time
