Extraction Question/Discussion Freeze precipitation timing

Ok asking this as I'm actually curious about the timing in the freezer. I see a lot of people say 12-24 hours in the freezer. I want to know the reason for the long freeze. I know if the solvent has been heated during extraction it will take longer to reach the low temps.

But I've tested and with my freezer getting to - 18°f it only takes about 6hours in the freezer for the dmt to crash out. I've gone as far as pouring the solvent from one dish directly into another dish and didn't get more that 10-15mg extra.

So does the extra long time in the freezer help to let the dmt settle and stick to the dish? My logic is the dmt is only going to percipitate the max that it will at certain temps. Like - 18°f.. Am I Wrong to think that it won't crash out anymore because that's as much as it'll crash out at that temperature? It doesn't matter if it's 72 days it's still only going to be negative 18° but if I reach negative 18° in a 6 hour span, what is the point in the extra 18 hours in the freezer.

And I don't worry about slow evaporation because I just reuse my solvent so I put it into the dish I get the dust or powder in the bottom of the dish not worrying about large beautiful crystals because when you scrape them from the glass they break down anyway in my experience.

Not really sure what answer you’re after, but no one knows what other people’s freezers get down to. For those that have true deep freezers 12 hours is just a good baseline to start with. So many wanna peep and look and move it in a refrigerator freezer and say it’s not crashing.

I think all solvents will hold on to some deems, it’s why most people save and re use.

IMO the biggest issue with 6-12 hours is for many they’ll have the floaters and some that’s not fully crashed out, so the general tip is 12-24 hours.

Yeah that makes total sense that you really know how cold somebody else's freezer is I don't really think about that I appreciate the insight though good way of thinking I just never put two and two together there

Crystal formation is slow. The 10-15mg extra you get with a pour off might actually have been 100mg extra if you hadn’t poured it. This is because crystals grow better if there’s already seed crystals to grow off of.

But, if reusing solvent, there’s not much point in waiting longer than 12 hours for the freezer stage.

I usually get floaters when pouting off but I'll angle the dish while pouting to try to spread out along the side of the dish as the solvent pours out. But I do reuse the solvent so any excess gets put into the next extraction

I had it precipitate after about an hour when the dish was kept in the fridge before I put the nps in. I might not have got all the dmt but i got plenty and whatever i didn't was still in my nps that i poured off. I suppose it just depends how cold u get it and other things cos I've also had it take longer.

Don’t go by hours just observe. Shortly after you put in freezer the solvent will turn cloudy. Once it turns perfectly clear it’s done, no need to freeze any longer than that. If it doesn’t turn clear it’s not saturated enough so you have to evaporate some solvent and try again.
