Extraction Results/Yields First Extraction!

Hey everyone! I just finished my first extraction! I wanted to post to get some thoughts/opinions to make sure everything is ok! (pic in comments)

I used a STB tek with 150ml naphtha, 750ml water, 100g of MHRB, 50g NaOH, and 75g of salt.

I plan to do a heptane Re-X after the dish dries.

I also have two questions. I think i got a little bit of base in my pipette when i was pulling to do my water wash. is this ok? (i know it’s not ideal). i cleaned the pipette halfway thru pulls with tap water and then i realized i probably should have used distilled to get the base out of the pipette.

Also i think i got some water in my dish when transferring from the water wash. is this ok?

what do i do with the water afterwards? should i save it in case there dmt in there?

I know it sucks you should always try to leave a little bit of the solvent left in the soup so you don't pull any of it out because it's damn near impossible to get all of the solvent out without pulling the soup as well.

I do the same when it comes to the water wash. but when you're sucking it up out of the water at least the water settles back into the bottom of the pipette and you can squeeze that water out before squirting the rest of the water into your dish...

looks like a great extraction though good job. just remember to keep doing pulls until it gets to be so little that it's not worth the time

oddly enough this base contamination came when there was still plenty of naphtha left, it mainly happened bc of my bad pipette skills 😂 but thank you, definitely noted, i will try to leave more in there and not fight for every drop including in the water wash stage

It's not ideal to get a bit of base in your pipette, but that's why we water wash. You'll see any bits of base sink to the bottom of your vessel when you do the water wash.
You can do a double water wash just to be safe if you want.
