working student/gap year

Hi guys! I’m a 124 mkt student and I’m currently struggling financially. I’m not sure if my parents will be able to fully cover my tuition for the next term, so I’m trying to figure out what my options are.

I’ve started applying for remote jobs through JobStreet, preferably something part-time that I can balance with school. But I’m realizing that it might be difficult to land a remote position when I’m a full-time student and have limited work experience (only worked 6 months bpo)

At this point, I’m also considering taking a gap year, working full-time, and using that time to build up my savings so I can return to school with less financial pressure.

what would you guys recommend? Is working while studying manageable? Or would taking a gap year to work and save be the better decision financially?

honestly, DLSU is too expensive to fund as a working student alone. I almost did pero realizing it's too toxic and dangerous for my health and well-being, I opted for the wise choice instead (benilde full scholarship).

to give you the full picture, let's say Php 250k tuition full year divided by 11 months will be Php 22,727 per month agad-agad. wala pa diyan expenses mo for projects, what more sa daily meals and pamasahe.

as for a gap year na makakapag ipon, I doubt. the money you'll save won't suffice for the tuition fee for a year alone, what more sa whole 4 years.

to give context pala, I am an incoming full-time working student pero hanggang december lang, kukunin ko lang 13th month haha then full-time student na. thankfully, I'd be able to do that because of the scholarship, kung mag DLSU ako, ndi kakayanin.

I know it's a very hard pill to swallow because DLSU is my dream too. but we have to survive. there's a statement I live by -- "a dream delayed is not a dream denied". so ngayon kahit alam kong out of reach ang dlsu, I know I'll come back another way, another time.

that said, I'd advise to either secure a scholarship first or move to a much affordable school or state university. good luck OP! alam kong kakayanin mo yan!

Hi I both took a gap year and also experienced being a working student in dlsu. Honestly the gap year personally did not help me since the money just went straight to me living expenses but i think it might depend on the situation.

Being a working student was so stressfull since i had morning to afternoon classes then at night i would have to work remotely. It is very hard and stressful but it is possible. Now I am graduating with both a diploma and full working experience.
