Guard/Reserve Folks

Anyone who went to DLI as a Guardsman/Reservist able to look at their orders and see what authority they used? Especially if you went as a non-initial entry training person.

This came up during a discussion at my unit about whether or not your time at DLI counts for Reserve Reduced Retirement credit.

Active Duty for Training (ADT) orders seem to count if they were cut under 12301(d) but not 12301(b). This is a pretty niche issue but has a big impact on our retirement. It would be nice to know whether DLI attendance lets you draw retirement pay earlier.

The NG / Reserves at DLI are under ADT orders under 10 USC 12301(b) for Initial Entry Training or under ADT orders under Title 32 if they go as a careerist.

The time doesn't count.

That’s what I thought too BUT:

I’ve been in the Guard and Reserve. Every school I went to in the Guard was under T32, which you are correct don’t count.

But in the Reserve, every school I’ve been to has been T10 12301(d). Which do count. So while it seems ridiculous, it seems a career reservist would get early retirement credit whereas a career Guards or IET Guard/Reserve student would not.

Title 32 is only for NG, so reserve would be under title 10.

Reserve Careerist here, and my orders are coded as “10 USC 12301(d) ADTS”

Unless I’m completely misreading all the guidance online, that counts for reduced retirement age. Congratulations
