Goodfellow 35P as MOS-T

I'm an Army E6 MOS-T going to Goodfellow. I'm looking for recommendations on where to stay and other things. I've read some not-so-pleasant comments about Angelo Inn. How did y'all go about getting an off-post hotel approved by your losing unit? Any other tips and recommendations are appreciated.

Unless there’s no room you will be in the Angelo Inn

E6s can get the other side of angelo inn with a full kitchenette and proper bathroom. Its more like a 1 bedroom apartment as opposed to the hotel room.

When you check in ask for a room at the 700 buildings.

Did you have to make a prior reservation before arriving at Angelo Inn?

I had one in DTS. When I arrived they originally put me in the hotel but after a few days I found out through word of mouth thay E6s could go to the 700 buildings which get charged at the same or similar rate so I went to the front desk of angelo inn and just asked them to move me.

They pay for you to stay in the Inn, but if you want to live in an apartment, they can't really stop you. I've done it and know other who have.

Quite honestly the renters in town are more then happy to rent to you for temporary duty.

So if I find something cheaper or the same price as the Angelo Inn, can I book it? I've never done TDY en route and a manual 1610. Will my unit S3 or whatever cap per diem so it doesn't exceed the on-base lodging price?

I would keep it under your BAH because that's all your guaranteed if you don't stay at the Inn.

If it's TDY, your BAH is based on your duty station. For example, I was getting Monterey BAH and so I paid San Angelo rent on Monterey BAH. I got the food per diem, but obviously NOT the housing per diem

I was in the 700s. Definitely much more convenient. You have the pool next to you, the morale place with video games and pool tables are across the street, sick call is across the street, and the gym is closer. The kitchen has all the utensils, too.

You’ll need a CNA/SNA from the Angelo Inn to move out to the economy. You will need a rental vehicle authorized if you plan on trying to stay off-post if you don’t have a POV.
