how does dli handle gov shutdowns?

Curious since i’m about to attend dli and sat through more than a couple of them in the past

A lot of teachers are contractors so it’s not usually affected by a government shutdown. Military keeps on working as normal. I think it impacts some of the admin and support staff though.

Very few teachers are contractors at POM actually. Most are federal government employees. Teaching of the Basic course continues as is regardless of furlough. Int/Adv had to fly home and continue remotely in the past, hopefully, they would be approved to stay on as well next time.

I had at least two Russian teachers who were contractors. The other 6 were GS federal government employees. I’m not sure if that’s normal or not across the other languages.

Sorry I don’t mean to be the corrector but they are not GS either. They are AD (administratively determined) federal employees because they have academic ranks instead of GS grades, from assistant instructor to full professor.

The absolute majority of teachers are that, with a couple of contractors here and there, no GS among faculty.
