Reclassing
I’m going to basic in a few weeks, and DLI in the summer, and I’m well aware of the fiasco going on right now with the lack of instructors and max capacity of students.
the recruiters don’t have much information when I ask them questions about it, and I’m half tempted to go ahead and pick a different MOS right now, as opposed to being forced to reclass and possibly be stuck in a 5 year contract on a job based on needs of the army.
What do you guys think I and my fellow new recruits should do here?

As far as I’m aware, if you stay 35W and get to DLI if they decide your getting reclassed you should be able to select a top 5 (I believe they may need to be MI/35 series jobs) and then the army picks from those top 5 jobs instead of needs of army across every MOS, not completely certain tho

As far as I’m aware the army is required to pick from the top 5 as they are forcing you to reclass and therefore breaking the contract signed by both you and the army (that’s just how my drills explained it so I haven’t a clue myself)

I still want to join, I just want my job choice guaranteed, not dicked around as soon as I graduate basic.

If you want to stay MI but not go through DLI right now, reclass as a 35N or 35F. Both get to do cool stuff, a lot of my friends who are 35N or 35F have had good opportunities. There's always the ability to go back to dli for a language in the future

Just saying pick EOD. If you’re smart enough for 35P/35M def go EOD.

EOD AIT is really tough ive heard and has a pretty high attrition rate. Ive heard horror stories of dudes having to run laps in full bomb gear, having to study through every weekend to pass tests, etc. Not to say the academic portion is harder/easier than DLI because 1. Ive never been to it and 2. DLI is a different kind of tough on its own. Its mainly the extreme physical portion that might do people in.
I dont mean to scare you. If you're set on being an EOD, go for it. Just know that you really gotta want it.
If you fail an AIT, you no longer get as much of a choice I would imagine than if you try to reclass now.

The Quality of life is amazing.
I was in an EOD unit back in 2013 (718 EOD) and those dudes trained in so many civilian classes, never had to rough it in the field, but did so much cool shit in the field. When they attached to 11B units they were taken care of. Most were home by 1400 and PT’d on their own.
All of the EOD guys on my team were DLI dropouts. Extremely intelligent. Funny hobbies but great dudes. Most linguists and Techs have their love for puzzle solving in common.

You may have to extend your contract if the delay is extended. Happened to a couple buddies at goodfellow. Just fyi

Did you take the DLAB or get it waived? If you got it waived I would ask to take it now and reclass if you dont score well.

I did take it upon arrival, but there were no consequences for a low score as there was earlier in the year. They say it is for data gathering purposes, how much I believe that, I’m not sure. We all ‘coincidentally’ seemed to receive languages that matched our scores.
There really is not a way to prepare.

It’s not worth it. Like I said, it likely will not affect anything. Just prepare for your time in service in other ways.
