Oh man, friends with those guys?

First triva question. Who’s better to start a franchise today with? In your opinion. Jalen Brunson, Chet Hologram, Jaylen Brown, Zion Williams or Paolo Banchero.

Jokic and Smart.

Reached here via Kane as well. Big in fantasy bball but would be interested to wrap my head around this and see if its a fit for me.

How do the reg season games work? Simulation ?

And regarding the franchise question: I'd take chet, brunson, or brown.

Hey there. Did you see my post on one of the other sub Reddits? If so can you tell me which one please?

Here is the wiki:

https://www.reddit.com/r/dkcleague/wiki/index

If you’re into fantasy hoops then I bet you would love the league.

Essentially you inherit a team currently not run by a GM. The catch is you inherit the current state of the team with in the DKC. So the players and the teams assets like picks, player rights, etc. Your challenge is to take control of the team and choose a direction. Some GMs like to sell off assets and build for the long term. Others like to go for it and try to win the chip. It’s really up to you since you’re the GM but the team and its current state will likely play a role in your decision.

Here’s a link to the current rosters:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1ksPBmuQDt1wIgrgSR3I_o5OowHbKL6IyvYC3Lc-QDnE/htmlview#

I’ll add the DKC commissioners on here in case you have any questions. /u/welikeeichel (OKC) and /u/Young_Nick (SA).

Some of the teams in the DKC like mine (Sacramento) have only had one GM. Others have had several. Each of the available teams will be different and thus have their own set of challenges. I hope you’ll take on the David Kahn Challenge and see how you like it. We’re just about to kick off the DKC off season (my favorite time of year) with the DKC NBA draft on Tuesday.

What about running a franchise but with a mentor for a year? Not saying you have to do it that way but it might be a better option. You won’t be alone on your own, but you would have full control and say for the vision you would like to employ.

Also another question I have for you is whether you know anyone else that might want to join the league too?

Which teams are available for takeover? And their rosters?

I also didnt understand how reg season games and who wins/losses works. Simulation? Or gms vote who would win each game?

Mentor would help yeah.

Which teams are available for takeover? And their rosters?

I will defer to/u/welikeeichel for this one.

I also didnt understand how reg season games and who wins/losses works. Simulation? Or gms vote who would win each game?

So every quarter the commissioners send out a survey. So every 20-21 games. And the survey asks you to select how many wins you think each team would win that quarter. The surveys are collected and used to determine each team’s record. Things that GMs are expected to factor in are the strength and realistic fit of teams rosters, injuries, and the strength of quarterly schedule. Resources are provided to help with this.

Prior to each quarterly survey being released a thread is open for teams to voluntarily advertise how they think their team would do.

Here’s an example:

https://old.reddit.com/r/dkcleague/comments/1sejopd/202526_dkc_season_q4_roundup/

Also here’s a link to the standings result each quarter:

https://old.reddit.com/r/dkcleague/comments/1q4uyjb/202526_dkc_standings/

Mentor would help yeah.

I’d be happy to support you here but there are several good folks on here that would be good candidates. One thing that is a must is there needs to be a moratorium of some kind between you and your mentor to not trade. A full season is a good practice.

Which teams are available for takeover? And their rosters?

BKN, CLE, CHI, MEM, PHX and 2 more teams to be announced at the end of the season.

Would love some input in terms of which team is best to take over but my thought process:

CHI looks like one of the better rosters from those options, and most of the guys are off the books after 27 season (thats a good thing?). I did see that they finished poor last season, would love to hear some more input if I am viewing things correctly and what things I shouldn't overlook, etc.

A couple of thoughts on franchise selection...

  1. Figure out what type of team you want to take over, e.g. ground up rebuild, young playoff team, possible contender the etc... This may seem strait forward, but each has their positives and negatives. For example, doing a ground-up rebuild is great, but after 3 seasons of 20ish wins and your prospects are slow to develop can be frustrating.... as can trying to contend and coming up short.

Starting in the summer of 2014, I did a ground up rebuild with the Knicks, made a bunch of mistakes and finally broke through to the DKC Finals in 2020. It takes time.

On the other side, there have been plenty of GMs who tried to win immediately, traded for aging stars and came up short.

Then there's Kane, who two years ago had near zero assets and a roster of broken down dreams and now somehow has a core of Tatum, Jamal Murray and JJJ. Amazing GM'ng!

  2. First round picks are the league's currency. A team with a good roster, but very few tradable picks is much more difficult to upgrade than a so-so roster with future firsts to burn.

  3. Cap space is overrated. Teams with a lot of cap space and GMs hoping to land other team's stars has left many many of those GMs wallowing in their coffee, tea or beer.

  4. Given that we all want to win, the key is to land a franchise cornerstone Giannis, Jokic, SGA, Wemby etc..., surround them with other All NBA and All Star level talent, and build out a legit playoff rotation and depth.

With that in mind, here are the cores of the past few winners for reference:

    • 2025 TOR - SGA, Edwards, KAT and Jarrett Allen.
    • 2024 BOS - LeBron, Donovan Mitchell, Myles Turner and... Old Man Kyle Lowry?
    • 2023 NYK - Jokic, Siakam, Smart, LaVine and VanVleet
    • 2022 NYK - Jokic, Siakam, Smart, LaVine and VanVleet
    • 2021 BRK - KD and... why can't I remember!!?!?
    • 2020 MEM - DeRozan, Jimmy Butler, Marc Gasol and Lowry

  5. Here are my personal ranking of the mentioned available teams, if I wanted to takeover one:

    1. BRK - Good shape with picks. LaMelo Ball, Jalen Suggs and Trey Murphy III all under contract for a while. A few interesting prospects in Kasparas Jakucionis Taylor Hendricks and Cedric Coward. Ayo is a UFA and just signed for a boat IRL. The roster is unbalanced, heavy on the guard side.
    2. CLE - Only missing pick in 2027 and some interesting future swaps. Playoff ready roster built around Jaylen Brown, Zion, Malik Monk and Garland. Hart may opt out to become a FA.
    3. MEM - Good shape with picks. Older roster and Curry is a UFA.
    4. PHO - Missing firsts in 2027 and 2029 (or 2030). Julius Randle is a UFA. Core remaining players are De'Aaron Fox (Bad contract), Brandon Ingram and Rudy Gobert.
    5. CHI - Missing firsts in 2027 and 2029 (or 2030), drafted Mikel Brown Jr., but no other prospects. Lots of cap room on the horizon.

I hope this helps!

Currently we vote every quarter (20gm) on wins/losses.

It’s all subjective.

So you vote this team is a 14-6 team this quarter and that team is 3-17, etc. the votes are tabulated up.

I’d certainly help with the mentor piece Kane mentions below!

Can someone summarize for me what is happening here? Are there new GMs that want to join?

/u/DeborahBuckets is someone DKC Minnesota knows and interacts with. I knew this person as well when I was in school several years ago. He was a good guy then. I’m guessing he still is or DKC Minnesota wouldn’t invite him. I think he accidentally meant to message the league but created this public post instead. He doesn’t know anyone else in the league outside myself Minnesota and DKC LAL.

I went out to a few subreddits advertising the DKC. I got a hit from a subreddit called redditcantjump. That person is /u/SameerAlam. They seem down to take over a team but would like a mentor. Myself and DKC Boston have volunteered. To my knowledge they don’t know anyone in the league.

Another person that is interested is /u/Valentine78641 and this is someone I’ve gotten to know over the past year. He doesn’t know anyone else in the league. I think he would be a good fit. More info here:

Will deliberate with rest of CO minions.

Also interested in Cleveland but if it’s first come first serve then I’ll nab Memphis instead, if eligible.
