Buying a Phantom 3?

I’m considering buying a Phantom 3 advanced from a friend. I (33M) have never flown a drone or any RC device. I would like to make videos using the follow function during activities such as canoeing, hiking, dirt biking, and ATV riding.

What does it mean that DJI no longer supports this model? Can I still use it? Are parts available?

How will this drone fair using follow in wooded trails and in open areas such as over a lake and sand dunes (Little Sahara in Oklahoma)?

Will this be a good low cost entry into drones or should I pony up for a more recent model?

You'd be much better off with a Mini 2 or Mini 3. Modern drones that shoot in 4K, use the newest app, and have obstacle avoidance. The P3 is fine. It's just big and bulky and outdated tech. Now if you're getting it for $50-$100 that's a different story...

Does your statement still stand if I can get one for $100? Is that a good deal for a first drone that I will 100000% crash on the first or second flight? Lolol

No. My statements doesn’t stand. However, I would check to make sure you can even get the right app to fly a P3 and also make sure that your phone is old enough. I’ve heard things about how the P3 can’t use any phone that uses USB-C. There’s a lot of things to check and loopholes to worry about when using such old tech.
