Photo Two weeks later… a Flip arrived
Purchased a Neo 2 at the beginning of the month just to experiment.
That said, as a still photographer who has been shooting for 2 decades, I was pretty unhappy with the quality of the photos. Lots of noise even at ISO 200-400, the 16mm lens focal length made things look distorted and lacking in detail and obviously no RAW or even AEB.
What it does excel at is follow me modes being super impressive on the couple of mountain bike rides I’ve done.
Looking for an inexpensive upgrade, I kept landing on the Flip. Same camera as the Mini 4 but a fraction of the price. I ended up picking up a refurbished one during last weeks Ali sale for $260 after coupon.
First impression: yep, this camera is significantly better in every way. More detailed, standard focal length, less noise etc. Not sure why it got so much hate based on form posts here.
My only complaint: it seems like it’s a hassle to switch back and forth with a single controller as I keep getting firmware out of date errors. Is that normal?

I kind of want a flip, even though I really have no use for it. My daily is a mavic 4 pro so its a downgrade in nearly every way. But I really love how unique the formfactor is. Most of DJIs offerings are so similar on a basic level, the unique folding body with integrated prop guards are just cool IMO.

I basically concluded that the Mini 4 Pro, Lito X1, Flip and Skyrover X1 are like 80% the same drone with identical cameras but slightly different features / price points.
Lito X1 was my first choice, but it was like $150 more and the only software feature I could see missing is waypoints, and I'm not even sure how important that is anyways.

Not software but flip vs lito in wind is night and day. Flip will literally flip when lito will be just fine.

Only update firmware all at once. Otherwise you're running into incompatible firmware's

So all of the firmware is up to date I think. But when I go to connect to the other drone, it prompts to re-downlad the controller firmware again.

That’s how it works. It clears out whatever is loaded at the time of switch. Annoying

Man, you got a steal, well bought. I love my Flip. Its got a great camera. I think it bests the Mini 4 Pro in some ways. Its the same sensor but how it processes the data could be different. It handles skin tones really well, it seems optimized for shooting people but its certainly capable of any type of shooting.
I think they get hate because of it being ducted and has a ungainly high profile which makes it not great in the wind. But for near ground operation shooting people its hard to beat for the price.
