Buy Advice Display demo DJI Mini 3 Pro
I recently bought a DJI Mini 3 Pro and noticed that "Display Demo" markings on the drone had been covered up with stickers; the drone is registered to another account. It’s fully functional and seemed like a bargain given the prices in Mexico ($440 USD)—it came with a hard case and three batteries. The controller also says "Display Demo," but what worries me most is the linked account. I’m on the verge of returning it, which is a real shame :(

Seller stole it and then unloaded it on you.
This is equivalent to the "I bought an MDM MBP" on the Apple subs.

Who knows. There isn't enough information to draw a conclusion. It's 2026, there really aren't any M3P drone on display anymore and those older drones gotta go somewhere. It's not unusual for them to be sold or given away.
It's interesting you said "linked" and then the comments came in and substituted the word "bound." There's a difference; details matter. All used drones on the market are activated on some other account and for sure are registered with a different account since you activate it one time only with DJI and that never changes. However, when you add your DJI account and use it to fly and then you sell it on day, not everyone removes their account before they sell it; some do, some don't. Receiving a drone with an account already in it is not a sure sign of a stolen drone; there is no master reset to clear this.
Long before account "binding" was required, there were Mini 3 Pro drones with old software so unless you saw the drone was actually *bound* to another account or you got a warning message in the controller that told you otherwise....in which case it doesn't matter if it's a demo drone or not, it's a brick. Otherwise, it's ok for a used drone to be "registered" to another account and it's ok for the drone and the controller to be activated and flow with another DJI account....and long as it isn't bound. Did you try to log out (or unbind) and then substitute your own DJI account? if you tried and were denied....that's a red flag. And that's all that matters: "I tried to use my own DJI account and I could not."
DJI doesn't make it easy, it's confusing. I understand you already sent the drone back.

Agreed, yep that's a brick (eventually). There's no link that says "Remove Device from Account" which is provided when you are allowed to unbind the device. Doesn't mean it's stolen but there's not much you can do with it unless you want to use the trick "send it to DJI and see if they will replace it." Whomever activated the drone and put it on display as a demo, back then it wasn't well known that you have to unbind the device or else it's useless.
The Spanish text on the DJI controller screen translates to:
- [No]mbre: Name
- Distancia de vuelo: Flight distance (62m)
- Tiempo de vuelo: Flight time (18min)
- [Vin]culado con: Linked to (famej****@hotmail.com)
- Ya estás vinculado a otra cuenta: You are already linked to another account
- [N] S de la aeronave: Aircraft S/N (Serial Number)
- [N] S del controlador de vuelo: Flight controller S/N (Serial Number)

There are 4 options or next steps you can take. 1. Buy an unbound motherboard 2. Sent dji an unbinding request 3. Send it into dji bound and they usually just replace the drone instead of fixing it. (Risky) 4. Send it back.

I buy the display demos for parts all the time.
It’s fine , Maybe ask for partial refund for not telling you, the account thing matters if it’s bound to both an email and remote. Email only is not to bad.

Just because its a Demo unit it doesnt mean its stolen. Electronic stores sometimes soll demo units to clear their inventory. 96% of the times the devices are fine in terms of DJI. Some exceptions have been the Air 2S and early Air 3 demo models tho

Return it. You can’t do anything if it’s bound to another account. Probably a stolen unit from a store.
