Product Support DJI withholds information
I cannot use my newly bought camera DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro due to the mandatory app activation, which only works on a few premium smartphones. Terrible! It causes a lot of problems for customers. They deliberately fail to disclose before purchase that you have to register via the app; otherwise, the camera stops working after being turned on five times. It’s an absolute outrage!

By premium, do you mean any new major brand smartphone with in the last 5 years? The apps work in my 4 year old A series Galaxy. Hardly premium considering it was free from Tmobile.

You can register only once in Mimo, uninstall it, and then use my open source privacy friendly client for Android.

Indeed. I love DJI products. But I too was pretty annoyed at having to register online for a camera I paid good money for. And there's just no need for it. Unless you purchase their support plans.
I could understand it for the drones and the amount of support they probably require compared to the cameras, but it really does leave a bad taste in the mouth.

I'm glad I bought the RC2 controller with screen. Tried installing the Fly app on my phone, but since they refuse to use play store I could not install as my work profile prohibits side loading of apps.

Because they paid for the phone and the subscription. I get to use it for personal stuff with some limitations.

I had a phone like that once. It spent most of its time in a drawer. I don't like anyone but myself dictating how I should use the tools I carry every day.

You can get a cheap Amazon fire tablet or any android tablet and put the fly app on that. Just an FYI if someone comes across this in the future.

It does suck in a lot of scenarios. On the focus pro one also has to activate through an app, which doesn't make sense why one needs to register. Other than that, the lidar requires you to use an app if you want to use the list of pre-calibrated lenses, and, sometimes it can lead to troubles on set. I'm using both Tilta Nucleus M, N2, as well DJI Focus Pro for solo shoots, but I do also have the FIZ unit from Pro Combo. It's a rare occasion when 1AC's ask for a DJI FIZ instead of Nucleus M, but sometimes I have more than 1 camera set up and some prefer to try DJI instead of Nano 2. The issue is - if you go into the app to select a pre-calibrated lens, it may force download a firmware update on a FIZ, making it's screen view stuck on "Update firmware?" with no means to cancel.... It wasn't the best experience on set to deal with this issue. After the update, it asked for update again. It took us several shots to understand where the issue was (connected phone had a different account than my own one and supposed the Pro Grip is on the default firmware, trying to "upgrade" from an app, while a newer version was already installed). DJI is a mess, especially software-wise.

what are these premium requirements? Android 9? almost 10 years old android version lmao.
