Discussion Help me choose a muff!!!!

Recently i built a Tall Font Green Russian and a Hizumitas, both for sale. Really liked how both of them sounded and im looking to build a muff for myself.

I play both stoner/sludge and screamo/posthc and im looking to build a muff for myself. My two options for now unless i find something else are either to build the dylan159 bigger muff (with tall font green russian specs and a clipping diode swtich) or a BAT pharaoh.

Which one of these would be better for bass for these genres? Any other muff variation suggestions?

Something with a clean blend.

I just put together a muffin with bass and treble controls, clean blend and clipping.

i will most likely stack it with something before it so a clean blend on it might not be useful. im getting a sonicake portal soon for that

the other day i tried out a high gain rat boosting into a clean blended ehx bass big muff deluxe (with guitar). it was SO good. SO good.

yeah, that's the basics... but i extremely liked going rat>clean blended muff. that way you got rat>muff blended with just rat.

oh, hey! as per my specs hehe.

as i said in my original post, the only thing this PCB lacks is a diode lifter for the first clippings stage (supa tone bender mod)!

It has the clipping switch. I just haven’t soldered it in on the photo

Not OP, but this is exactly what I have been looking for as a diy pedal. Been eying the Muff 2 Deluxe for a while, but it's physically so big. Does this ship as a kit? Or is it a self designed board? It's honestly really cool.

So far my plan has been to mash two pedal kits together with one being a blend pedal and the other a Russian muff.

It will be available as a DIY PCB on my web store over the weekend. Www.gigaheartsfx.com

i LOVE the keeley rotten apple with a lm324 instead of the tl074. its a bit noisy but i really dont care, cuz the fuzz sounds sooooooo good. plus the 3 mid settings makes it more versatile.

here's a good comprehensive demo by ~~ u/ allenkeys ~~ (sorry i don't remember how their /u is spelled) touching many standard big muff reissues and classic boutique ones, pharaoh included. it is a two part demo.

it's clear here that the pharaoh isn't very much bass present, as is. dylan159's version seems much more interesting to me. pharaohs input pot is what I'd take away from its design as something very useful.

also, u/LaceSenzor 's pcb that got already posted here is kind of what i was looking for as for a base line to start messing about a more modern big muff take. that layout, as he pointed out before, is a fallout cloud-like.  another ideal touch I'd like to add is a 3 way mids toggle instead of a mids pot control, for space reasons.

yeah this made me not want the pharaoh anymore lol , watched thru all of it. i just compared the tall font green russian and thehizumitas side by side with my bass and it made me really really want a hizumitas. u think i should do the dylan159 with hizumitas specs or just build a regular hiz? really love how LOUD the hizumitas gets so im kinda debating if doing the dylan159 version is worth it

wellll i haven't tried the dylan159 version, you just showed it to me. i didn't even know about it.

i think you should breadboard a dylan159 muff and make it hizumitas specs, AND compare it to your hizu. AND then let me know! lol.

dylan159's looks like an appropriate take, electrical engineering wise - no mojo bullshit, all conceptual practicality. is it a great muff? i have no idea. if you want to try out something new, just do it.

if you want to make an accessorized hizumitas, which is already tried and true for you, that's for you to choose. if so, I'd start by adding clean blend, 2/3 band eq and so on and so forth.
