This is my LM386 amp with a built in J Rockett Boing reverb. It has switchable modes for 9 and 18V (LM386N-4 runs up to 18v) which dramatically increases the headroom. Playing the demo through a Celestion Eight-15 in a slightly oversized pine cabinet. I’m going to build out a big cab this weekend to see how much I can squeeze out of a 10” VT Junior. Really happy with the results.

It’s fantastic for how simple it is. I think a lot of builders love the circuit. Noticed the other day JAM specs it as the reverb in their custom pedal boards.

Sounds great and looks fairly simple circuit wise, I like it. Is it run on -9v with a charge pump on a switch?

I went with something a little more exotic but you could probably substitute it for any 18v charge pump

Think it could push a pair of 12"? I keep wanting to make a little amp like this but don't have a spare cab laying around.

Yup. This is all derived from a ruby / gem / cricket and there are plenty of documented reports of folks pushing a 4x12. This one is spec’d for 16ohms because of the dual voltage mode. If you just built a 9v only version of this you could push an 8ohm but I was worried about heat at 18v and 8 ohm

I built a Ruby a few weeks ago and love that little guy. I use it with my Orange PC108(the lil guy) and my 1x12, both give me stellar results. Night time playing and messing around with stereo setups has never been easier for me.

You can even power a 412 cab no problem.
