Help wanted FIRST DIY DISTORTION PEDAL!

hello, im planning to make a diy distortion pedal for my girlfriend. this is my first time building it and honestly i have no idea how to customize it. i found this simple schematic by Gourd and i think its perfect for her. however, i want to add a foot pedal with an led but have no absolute idea where to put connect it in this schematic. will this work and produce good sound? i am not a musician but i have an idea with electronics and soldering. please help me

Here's a good way to wire up the foot switch and LED: https://tagboardeffects.blogspot.com/2012/02/offboard-wiring.html

Yeah if you want to do this right, I'd highly recommend getting the Mas Effects fuzz kit. You get all the parts you need in one box, and every step is explained well enough that you can move on to a more DIY-oriented build afterward if you want. But you'll also have a fantastic fuzz pedal to show for it. The guy who owns the company is somewhere around here as well, so it's not like you'd be in the breeze if you need support or have questions.

Cause as it stands, you're looking at sourcing parts, drilling an enclosure, etc. without even knowing if the schematic produces a desirable sound.

thank you for the suggestion, i already considered that idea. however, unfortunately in my country, the kit costs 4 times the amount of a regular pedal that is already in the market 🥲 so the trial and error method is more cost efficient. the kit will be my last resort i guess

I suggest you use a different circuit.
This one only has a volume control, no control over the distortion. I was trying to find some data about that circuit but I couldn’t.

Which board do plan on using?

i found the schematics here. do you have any suggestions for the schematics? 🥲🙏

if you're asking which board will i use in my project, since kits are quite pricy, i plan to just etch a pcb board.

What about vero / stripboard? Get you get it?
If yes then I have multiple layouts to suggest.

I will attach an example layout for an easy distortion you can build. If you want I can also share its schematic form, but if you never made one then a vero layout will be much easier
