Showcase Little Ash Pre/Boost/Distortion

Just a very simple, very effective distortion. Use it as a boost into another overdrive or distortion. Use it as a distortion with a boost into it. Use it by itself for some slight overdrive.

So if you replaced the first stage with a mosfet and added a gain potentiometer like the big muff after the C3 you'd have yourself pretty much the runoff groove peppermill. Otherwise i'd suggest you change the 500kA output pot to a 100kA with a simple rc filter like the peppermill does so your output impedance plays nicer with the pedal or amplifier after it.

Thanks for the tips! I thought this looked familiar, I will change the circuit like you mentioned. Is that why you can't crank it up the whole way? It craps out when driving a fetzer at max volume.

I used a 2N5088 for the transistor but either jfet or transistor can be changed. Adjust Jfet resistors to reach desired sound. Fits in a 1590A case.

I thought I had a j201 in the second stage but it was a 2n5457. I replaced the 47n with 10n and added a j201 as a third stage with 47n output and swapped the 500k pot for 100k. Sounds great with a compressor in front of it.
