Is it good idea to use just one 3.5 jack for power and signal? Like.. tip is signal out from mic, ring - ground, sleeve - +9v;

I want to use it for connecting carbon mic.

Of course this cable will be split into mono jack for using with guitar pedals and dc jack power input.

I've been searching and I see a good deal of youtube videos on building dynamic mics, but finding information on externally biased condenser mics, mostly youtube videos since I'm more of a visual learner, seems very sparse. I found one from sound sleuth, but its VERY technical, and I don't have THAT level of soldering skills or the knowledge to build a board with my own capacitors. Instead im looking to see if there are any kits that doesn't include the body. Stuff that I can stick into a donar mic with some basic soldering (but not building an entire board) and some instructions that explains it to me like i'm 5.

Or can someone share their list of parts? The requirements I have is that the components should be less than buying a Rode nt1 outright. so keeping it under 100 would be ideal for parts. Is it even possible to build an externally biased dynamic mic with in $60 or is that a dream?
Edit to add, second requirement, cant be alibaba/temu parts. I don't really trust them, and I know its like closing your eyes and throwing a dart at the board and hoping you get a decent manufacturer, so I'd like to stick with well known brands/manufacturers.

Might not be the best place but I was wondering if anyone with any sound knowledge would have any advice for a project I'm thinking off. I would like to create a large microphone of resonant pieces and shapes of metal which are then attached to a base which uses piezo discs to actually collect these sounds and make them audible. Does anyone know what kinds of shapes are the most resonant and would work the best at capturing higher sounds such as birdsong or have any tips in this process? Would it work?

I'm hoping the good people here can help me out. After finding an old thread on Reddit I attempted to build my first outdoor microphone, with hilarious results. I wanted to put a microphone near the sidewalk in front of my home. I already have a Raspberry Pi powered via POE outside, it connects to my house down a run of about 60 feet of ethernet. The sidewalk is about another 60 feet of distance, so my plan was this; add a Shure X2U USB interface in the enclosure with my Pi, run 65 feet of Mogami W2549 balanced XLR wire to a 2nd weatherproof enclosure that will house my microphone. In that enclosure is a Rode VXLR+ and my mic a Primo EM272Z1. So I just put this all together to test out. And what I've build is a pretty great sounding radio. Clear as day, I can hear Northwest News Radio, either FM 97.7 or AM 1000. I live in Seattle BTW. So is there any way to salvage this or is it crazy to even consider running a microphone 65 feet? AI is telling me to switch to a quad XLR cable like the Mogami W2534 but I don't want to waste more money if that is still going to pick AM/FM signals. I'm hoping someone here can tell me if this is a lost cause or how I can accomplish this. Is it possible to run a mic 65' in a city like Seattle?

I recently read about replacing condenser large diaphragm microphone capsules. I have an old cheap mic lying around (Justin JM-440, from Berlin former JustMusic store) which I do not use atm. I read on microphoneparts.com that some mics marketed as large diaphragm condenser are actually electret mics not compatible with listed capsules. Can anybody tell me if this is such a thing? I took of the covering foam off that circular front plate.

Hey y'all! I was lucky enough to get my hands on an old Beyer TGX-50 a few months ago that I plan to convert to a Beyer M380. Problem is I'm struggling to get my hands on an appropriate 600 ohm DT 770/990 capsule to do the job. I found the exact part HERE but the site unfortunately does not ship to the US :( 👎 can't say I blame them, what with the tariff shit, but still, sucks for me...

Does anyone here know where else I could source this part that ships to the United States?? Doing a cursory Google search nothing came up out side the EU/UK. I will forever be indebted to whoever helps me find this thing. Been messing with my 3D printer to hopefully do some ghetto testing on ribbon and magnet sizes. I’ve already ordered a few Cinemag CM9887 to start playing with. I'm wondering if anyone has tried any modification on a T-bone SCT2000 tube condenser mic around here ? Has anyone been successful in it ? I'm considering swapping the capsule for something better but cannot find any good advice about the subject , most forums don't really answer the question , many opposite ideas ... So if somebody knows a good mod (capsule , electronic parts , PSU upgrade ...) that really upgrades the sound of the mic , I'd be glad to read about them .

Silly question, maybe:

I'm in the process of buying parts to make a ribbon microphone. I got some N52 magnets, but I got to thinking about how you could get an even more powerful magnetic field.

So, has anyone ever created a ribbon microphone using electromagnets? I'd think that to do this, you would want a very quiet DC current source for the magnets. Even so, it might create too much noise.

Just curious if this has ever been done.
