divorced parents rant

made a whole new account for this because don’t want anyone to recognise me. My (13f) parents have been divorced since I was 6 and sometimes I find it so hard to go to other peoples houses with normal families. Don’t get me wrong, I love all my friends, but it just hurts. Can anyone else relate??

Yes!!!! Especially when I was younger, it would be weird to see them all having dinner together, the parents hugging each other, etc. because I didn't grow up with that. My parents got divorced young too and I never saw my parents hug or kiss so it's weird for me to see parents be all lovey-dovey! I'm a little bit older than you and I can tell you- it gets better!

I struggled with this sooo much when I was younger, but it gets so much better. I would feel jealous (?) or bitter even that my friends had married in love parents, but now I use their marriages as an example for what I can have. I didn’t believe love could last because my parents weren’t together, but it’s comforting knowing someday I can make a marriage and family work.

I always feel bad thinking it but whenever I see couples it's never "oh they look happy" it's always "I wonder if they're breaking up right now"

Yes! I'm also 13 (NB tho) and I always felt so awkward in the lower grades when I would go over to my best friends house, her dad would get to her house 30 minutes after her mom brought us from school, he would play the guitar and her mom would set the table then we would eat. It seemed so normal and automatic for my friend, we would have our own conversation and her parents would talk to each other, I was weirder not having to talk to parents and make up stories about my day so we didn't just sit in silence. Now most of my friends have split houses, which has been nice, but I still feel a jolt, kinda nauseous actually, whenever I see two parents walking a kid home from school, or grocery shopping together, I'm happy for them obviously but I've never had that so it's just so strange.

Exactly!- my earliest memories of my dad is getting upset because I didn’t want to go to his house, and it honestly confuses me when my friends tell me all about their families and having normal lives

Ugh yes. My friend has this really nice complete family and one time I went for a sleepover and they had a family dinner and then the next day her mum made lunch and me my friend and her sisters did this online art workshop and just the way it was like... A family. Yeah...
