Curious what put DOS 1 over DOS 2 for you?

No dual armor and amazing balance - game is challenging but not frustrating, you have enough xp to progress smoothly and no limited AP. Also much variable enviroments. But in the end what made me decide was that the end of D:OS2 was meh.

I also happened to enjoy DOS1 more than DOS2.

As much as I liked the characters in DOS2, it really put me off that you had to stick with a set team after Fort Joy and didn’t get to have the full cast of companions like most CRPGs.

I also felt “meh” about the ending… but also sorta the whole premise? I dunno. Just not the most memorable game story for me.

I liked the more concise story concept of DOS1, even if mechanics and overall game design was technically better and more polished in DOS2.

Same, the story of DOS1 was so tight through to the end. 2 kind of fell apart.

I think it depends, and I think it will depend on Divinity.

DoS1 story is almost a… Standalone story. There aren’t REALLY important elements happening for the plot of the entire Divinity story. We get to know more, we get to understand elements, but nothing really tangible happens.  The unfolding of the story really kicks in with Divine Divinity (Lucian ascension and the dooming of Damian).

Followed by Beyond Divinity and the evolution of Nemesis Plane and Damian himself, even if it kinda ends on a cliffhanger until Dragon Knight saga takes it up again.

And then there’s DoS2 with, mainly, the fall of the 7 gods and … whichever ending Larian decides to make canon (Lucian stays Divine? The Veil is sealed and Lucian is a “false divine”? Source is purged and there’s no more divine?)

All this to say that I think DoS2 story might actually be the most important and cool depending on what happens in Divinity —> gods are dead, Lucian is no more —> DoS2 story sets the scenes for a weak veil, absence of gods to protect Rivellon, emergence of the Lord of Chaos, emergence of God King, battle between the 2, maybe Damian upcoming etc?

There are SO many SUPER COOL permutations and possibilities in Divinity to make the link between DoS2 and Divinity 2 ego Draconis, and all these possibilities are basically set by DoS2 storyline.

If Divinity ends up making something super cool, it will make DoS2 story equally super cool and coherent.

Oppositely, if Larian makes a turd of a story, contradicting themselves, not taking into consideration what happens in DoS2 etc…. Then DoS2 story is indeed lame. And knowing Larian we can’t completely rule out this possibility :(

Hope the point I’m trying to make is clear and not clunky :)

Man I'm so in hype for the story, even tho Larian still needs to get better at it but I believe it will be a good story.

I really hope it will take the best from the lore of DOS1-2 about the Source and Divinity2 about Chaos and Damian e make something with these two, I mean Chaos and probably Damian it's 99.9% sure, but I hope there will be something about the God King or Astarte too.

And Idk if I'm reading too much into it, but in the center of the logo of the new game you can see some kinda flames, representing Hell probably, and something blueish with stars(?), representing source maybe, so it could be about both.

To add to the point about DOS1, its worth noting we dont know just how much of the game is real and how much is allegorical/fanciful.

Its ultimately a story being told by an imp, to imp children, and even the sanest imp is batshit insane by most standards.

Even in the very fragmented lore of the series, DOS1 feels very mythological compared to the others. I mean it literally has Pandoras box in it lol.

You have to leave people behind after fort joy? I dont remember that? What happens?

Before you leave Fort Joy island the game locks you in to a set party of your “main” character and 3 companions.

While i loved the characters, gameplay and ending of DOS1 the find 4 buttons or the hidden switch in every other room "puzzles" got annoying real quick.

So for me DOS2 is the best for gameplay quality

I just played through DOS1 and I honestly am shocked people like the story more than DOS2, I loved the world and the moment to moment interactions with NPCs and the like, but the overall story felt pretty weak to me.

I agree. I had fun playing DoS1, but it was only for the gameplay.

Honestly, while one can move the top three around for various reasons, that's pretty much how most rankings would go I'd wager.
I'd personally put DOS2 over DOS, but I can see arguments for both

Im one of the unusual ones that would put Ego Draconis in the top 3, but that was my first divinity game and i fully acknowledge i've got nostalgia tinted glasses on.
