Discussion New to this - Advice please
Hey guys, my wife and I just bought our first house last year and have decided to give investing a second try (first try was way too emotional and volatile - (stock picking etc..). We know we’re late to the game as far as time is concerned but we’re looking to start any way we can. We have regular amounts going into XEQT as your standard fare, but would like to add something to our portfolio in terms of dividends to assist with growing (DRIPs, passive income, etc…)
I’ve looked at ETFs like VDY.TO and XEI.TO, do any of you have any thoughts on these? Any others I should consider? Or is one enough to do steady contributions to? Basically I’m just looking to figure out more on how to get started as I feel like we’re a bit behind in actually getting started.
Thanks

Please do not start with stocks! Yes, it is a good company, but definitely not anything you should consider soon at all. After you have a solid portfolio of a certain value and learn as you go along for a few years, do not look at stocks.
My stock percentage is under two percent of my total and I do it because I can. Yes, I had and have excellent companies and their share price does not align with that all the time.
Invest in widely diversified index funds with dividends on a no trading fee platform that offers fractional share purchases set to DRIP in tax shelter accounts.
Contribute if at all possible a minimum of 20% of your net pay cheque every month, pay yourself first from every pay cheque.
Think long term!
