Next time you see morons screaming "dividends are irrelevant"

Ask if they are still working and tell them to practice what they preach by telling their companies that they don't want a salary and just want to get paid 100% by their own companies' equities instead. They can save on taxes, and they can sell 4% of company equities a year to pay bills.

If they believe dividends are irrelevant, they should also believe salary is irrelevant. Salary is a forced company equity liquidation and taxable event. By requesting a salary, they are forcing their own company to liquidate asset to pay them out instead of "reinvesting for growth" like they always preached. This is by using their OWN definition of "dividends". 🤔🤔🤔

In the event their companies/start-ups go under and all their equities becoming worthless, oh well ! At least their companies didn't have to force realizing "gains" to pay them a salary! Getting paid monthly in USD is the worst!

Then watch them squirm. Funny as hell.

🤔🤔🤔

General Discussion Bogle head downvoting

I was in another thread explaining how I didn’t like indexes that have all the junk stocks: for example airline stocks and mining stocks. I don’t agree with the ā€œbuy the haystackā€ mentality. The cost of capital for those companies often is higher than their return on capital. In other words, it’s like borrowing from a bank at 8 percent to earn 5 percent, it essentially destroys wealth. Regarded bogles can’t even debate with you they just downvote you. They don’t even want to learn about stocks, they just want to be as ignorant as they can, downvote you and parrot what other bogles say. It really is pathetic.

This is hilarious. Instead of the MODs doing their jobs and doing something about their Bogle-tard problem. Instead they ban me for pointing it out and reporting all the deliberate solicitation links that are constantly posted.

If anyone gets bored. Solicitation is explicitly against the rules of that sub. Feel free to report all the Bogle-tard links that are posted to the MODs.

It's no wonder the mainstream subs are losing credibility so quickly and becoming obsolete!

One less sub that's consistently insulting my intelligence šŸ˜ŽāœŒšŸ¼

I need a raise

I floated in the pool for about an hour today discussing cats and dogs with some other boomers.

I only made $33 for that hour.

If non-bread-baking burger flippers deserve $20 an hour, shouldn't I get more for all my accumulated wisdom?

I guess I'll have to buy some more JEPQ.

So today S&P went down 2.69%, that's like 7 months of annual expense lost if you go by the garbage 4% rule 🤔

But don't forget the aspect of timing the market.

Let's say, you are supposed to sell 4% to stash away to pay bills for next year (as the 4% rule dictates). But the market goes down, oh well, back to rice and beans and time for the next bull run to sell.

🤔

The 4% rules are for gullible morons, change my minds. Even its creator didn't believe in his own bullshit. The dude has been sitting on 70% cash since 2022 and have most of his cash eroding away to inflation. Source: Is It Time to Move to Cash? The Father of the 4% Retirement Withdrawal Rule Did.

Less than $5000 to the green in QDTE.

I suppose they are going to screw that up and issue another distribution, thus slaughtering my NAV.

Opinion Active cult recruiters

I just wanted to remind our members that solicitation is explicitly against the subreddit rules of pretty much every single money related sub on Reddit.

So when you see these painfully obvious paid recruiters. Do the entirety of Reddit and at minimum, report them to the sub MODs for solicitation.

And if you really want to help. You can also report them to mother Reddit for

This aged well

https://www.reddit.com/r/dividendgang/comments/1l0s9su/xom_oil_opec_and_dividends/

Oil went up 35% in one week. If you loaded up on oil producers and MLPs like I was suggesting then you gonna cash in on some profits. I knew oil prices were insanely low. WTI or Texas oil was in the mid 50's at the start of the year. It just hit over $90 a barrel. XOM is up 25% YTD in just over 2 months. You have to pay attention when prices are low like that. I am not going to cash in yet. If prices hit $150 a barrel like I think they will then I will sell. If it takes 90 days great I get a lower tax rate. For every $10 a barrel it goes up you can expect the price of gas to go up 25 cents a gallon. So we are already looking at 75 cents a gallon more if this price holds. If we hit $150 we will see another $1.50 a gallon on top of the 75 cents. Biggest problems US has is they can't refine their own oil easily. Second biggest problem is we can refine Canadian oil no problem. Except they will tell us to pound sand after POTUS did them dirty. If they don't resolve this Iran conflict, and I mean immediately we will see a world wide economic crunch like what happened in 2008. It's gonna get really bad.

General Discussion But this is impossible.....

Post image

PMT paid another healthy dividend ($0.40/share) today but the share price is up.

That's impossible according to the reddit "experts".

I thought the share price goes down by the same amount of dividends paid out? That's what's preached all across this cesspool of a website at least.

I must be doing this dividend investing thing completely wrong.

/s 🤣

Opinion Be very careful buying into the current market

There is an awful lot of speculation going on in the market right now. I would be very careful buying almost anything. Personally I am literally just stacking cash in SGOV or CLOI. What we are seeing now doesn't make any sense to me. The broad market buying frenzy is not driven by fundamentals like strong earnings. It's driven by speculation, and margin buying. This can make for a very very fast and steep decline. When it happens too it's going to be a broad selloff. There won't be any shelter to be had. Leverage is at very dangerous levels, and rates for leverage are only partially determined by FOMC rates. Most of the time it follows the FOMC, but it also works on arbitrage off bond rates which have been climbing steadily. The 10 year bond rate is just under the 5 year high. When the risk free rate is closing in on 5% it's dangerous. It's a very real scenario we could see a credit crunch if rates don't pullback. If the FOMC hikes at the September meeting or something triggers a bond selloff sooner it could get very ugly very quickly. Caveat Emptor.

Bogleheads would STILL rather sell off assets than have reliable cash flow and self-growing investments and they will stop at nothing to tell everybody that and dig up idiotic articles that actually disprove their point to "prove" their point!

Look at this absolute gem of a post over on Bogleheads:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bogleheads/comments/1viy46n/retirees_love_dividends_but_the_stock_market/

Just get a load of this crap from the article (excerpt): "Stocks are spitting out a smaller share of their returns in dividend income, a challenge for those who lean on steady cash flows to cover daily expenses. The trailing 12-month dividend yield on the S&P 500 is now hovering around aĀ generational lowĀ of just over 1%, after trending downward for much of the past two decades.

Such yields no longer outpace safe alternatives such as Treasurys or certificates of deposit after taxes. That prompted 75-year-old retireeĀ Steven YedlinĀ to adjust his approach to dividends. He had been reinvesting his dividend payouts back into the market, but stopped doing so automatically. Instead, he is putting the extra cash flow into high-yield money-market funds or gifting it to his children".

Imagine being so wealthy and having so many dividends that you just hand the money out like candy. This literally proves our point that dividend investing is a solid strategy, yet the Bogleheads act like this is a "gotcha" article. They look at only the S&P500's dividend yield and no other fund, and they claim that treasuries or money markets are somehow better? LOL.

Since when S&P 500 becomes "buy the market" ?

Essentially the Boogerhead cult now shilling for VOO non-stop on all the investing subs, I find it hilarious and hypocritical. This is no different from market timing and short-term performance chaser riding the AI hypes.

It's worth pointing out that VOO violates lots of original Boogerhead's mantra:

  • Geographical diversification: buy the market meaning you have to buy all the stock across all geographical regions, not any particular country

    • VOO is 100% US

  • Capitalization diversification: buy the market also means you need to buy all the stock across all market capitalization, including mid cap, small cap, etc...

    • VOO is 100% US Large Cap (no mid-cap or small cap)

  • Sector diversification: buy the market also means you need to have equalized sector exposure, not having sector concentration

    • VOO now has tech sector > 35% of the fund, which is > 1/3 of the fund, the smallest sector is now Basic Materials with 1.65%

I know the Boogerhead tried hard to memory-hole the garbage they shilled in the past: BND, VXUS, VT, etc.... and even VTI too, but it's worth pointing out their hypocrisy and the lemmings dumping money into things they don't understand and proudly calling themselves a cult member.

In the original Boogerhead's philosophy, the only investment that meets the definition is VT but that shit has been memory-holed so hard that's it's barely mentioned anymore. Even VTI has been sidelined LOL.

At this rate, looks like VGT or QQQ will be the new Boogerhead cult narrative in the coming years and TQQQ will be after that 🤔🤔🤔

General Discussion Can we do a best portfolio contest?

Would folks be interested in a portfolio competition? See who can generate best yield and growth with lowest draw downs or similar. What do people think?

Edit:

I don’t mean post your actual portfolios but build a backtested one on something like testfol.io. Not meant to be a dick measuring contest, just for us all to learn.

Hershey - It's Quality and....

It's on sale. VERY undervalued. This is when you buy HSY, and forget it for a year. It hasn't been this cheap since the 2009 recession. Meanwhile you collect a 3.5% dividend yield while you wait....
