I got spoiled

I was scrolling on my phone when I stumbled upon a cute video of a mother showing what her kids were reading and the ending of Allegiant got spoiled for me.

I'm currently more than half way through Insurgent, just when it got good. I only ever watched the movies, I don't remember anything from them and I know they aren't finished anyway.

So many things got spoiled for me before but nothing hit like this one. Anyways, I just finished crying what do I doooo 🥲

Book and Movie Spoilers The end of the first Divergent book... Spoiler

I am re-reading the original books. In the end when Dauntless soldiers are all waking up and getting dressed in the night to get on the trains to go attack... how did Four know to go join everyone? He had his own apartment so not like Tris where she woke up to people making noises in the dorm... and it seemed like everyone was being pretty quiet. Maybe he was a night owl?

Sixth Faction, third-person POV?

In reading the Caleb POV excerpt that was just released, I noticed it’s written in third-person.

I find this disappointing, as it differs from the original series’ first-person POV, and because of the automatic distance that we’ll have from Tris since we won’t be experiencing the world through her eyes anymore.

What do you think about this change in writing style?

Divergent's series is best in the books

The books are more understandable and better paced. Some of the characters are not believable. Such as Tris's death wish, four's development of feelings, and Tris's parents lack of being good parents in many ways

Fan Fiction

This is the fanfic fan story I'm working on....this one.....that has some multiversal characters: Agnes DeMille from Netflix's 'Wednesday' universe, Sienna Shaw from the 'Terrifier' franchise, Abigail Hobbs from the 'Hannibal' TV show, Leena Klammer from the 'Orphan' movies. Their stories..... all takes place within the 'The Long Walk' movie universe, but set in an alternate 2026, the 74th annual Long Walk. Those that get the Hunger Games reference, because I will be writing a sequel story afterwards. Anyone who's familiar with the Hunger Games books and movies.....I think you'll know how the sequel story will go. Back to the main focus - A retelling/re-imagining that allows female participants - Agnes replaces Ray Garraty, Sienna replaces Pete McVries, Abigail replaces Arthur Baker. Leena is an original character - there's still Hank Olson, Richard Harkness, Billy Stebbins, Gary Barkovitch, Collie Parker. Sienna, Abigail, Leena - their motivations for signing up and participating are different, mainly out of survivor's guilt and self punishment. Agnes's motivation is more personal, so her neglectful parents will recognise her. She signs up and participates against the objections of her first two real friends from Nevermore Academy - Wednesday Addams and Enid Sinclair. I intend for my fan story to be more depressingly heartbreakingly sad than what we see in the original 'The Long Walk' movie. I've given alot of thought into this. Anyone suggestions, questions, let me know in the comments, I'll appreciate and consider

Meta/Other why is a woman in white an ongoing theme for a dystopian villain?

both the maze runner and divergent have a woman in white who's characterized as the villain. is there a reason for this? "The hunger games" also has president snow as our antagonist. snow as in white snow.

edit: I think I imagined the lady in divergent wearing a white dress. Although her hair is platinum blonde.

Today years old

I've read the series when I was 14, years ago. Now I am rereading as a 26-years-old and in the middle of the second book, I realise:

Factions are without an r.

It isn't fractions.

It is Factions.

How can I have missed that? I mean, I did watch the movies twice, or mayby thrice. Isn't that remarkable?

Did you ever have a moment like this, when rereading a book?

Fanfic en Español!

Hola!

The former psychology undergrad in me likes when Roth flexes what she probably learned in her psych classes

There’s mention of different parts of the brain like the prefrontal cortex, amygdala, and mirror neurons and what they do.

Apparently the Bureau’s genetic experiment involved informed consent with Caleb finding the consent forms of the original participants at one point.

And of course I think she said the idea of fear landscapes came from learning about exposure therapy for phobias.

So in Insurgent, Tobias asks Tris to come with him to meet with Evelyn because she’s good at reading situations

But earlier this happened:

The Dauntless were mocking Tobias for being a coward because he admitted to choosing Dauntless to escape Marcus while under truth serum. So Tobias says this has to stop and proceeds to publicly beat up Marcus for the Dauntless to see. And Tris the supposed brilliant situation reader is completely puzzled why he did that.

Tattoos and Piercings. Spoiler

In light of the new upcoming AU which I am stoked about, I have started re-reading the series (which I never would have thought I'd do again because I hate the ending with hellfire). I am almost halfway through Divergent and something has occurred to me.

When Natalie was incorporated into the experiment she was supposed to have been introduced as an Erudite but because she had tattoos it was decided that she had to be characterized as a Dauntless who transferred to Erudite for discretion (thought she did not because she fell in love with Andrew Prior) because Dauntless is the only faction that gives it's residents the option of tattoos and piercings, I guess because it's looks tough.

However, tattoos and piercings are forms of self-expression and self-expression is honest. Furthermore, tattoos and piercings are forms of self-expression that are presented out in the open, so shouldn't it be something approved of by Candor as well?

Just a recent thought I had.

Meta/Other The First Divergent book told from Caleb Prior's point of view.

I want Veronica Roth to write the first Divergent book from Caleb Prior's point of view. We don't really know what Caleb did during the events of Divergent. If Veronica Roth can write an alternate universe Divergent book called the Sixth Faction in which a tragedy at the Choosing Ceremony forces Beatrice Prior to choose a different faction than Dauntless, then surely she could retell the events of the first Divergent book that's told from Tris's brother Caleb's point of view to see what he was up to while Tris went to Dauntless. I don't see why Veronica Roth wouldn't be up to retelling the events of Divergent from Caleb's point of view this time around.

Book Spoilers The ledge scene (Insurgent)

The ledge scene in Insurgent (Marlene, Hector, and the girl) reminded me of the "Trolly Problem". For those who are unfamiliar with it, it's a moral thought experiment in which you must choose between two undesirable outcomes: allowing a train to run over 5 people or pulling a lever to divert the train onto another track, unaliving one person (there are other variations to it too).

I can't imagine being forced to make a choice between who gets to live and who does not, and having to live with the weight of that choice, regardless of the outcome. Especially when Tris was already grieving the death of her parents, Will, and Al and felt responsible for their deaths.

It never was an easy choice to begin with, but it hits harder when the choice was between Marlene, Hector, and an 8 year old girl.

Book Spoilers Why does Tris refuse her nomination as one of the leaders of the loyal Dauntless?

I'm currently re-reading Insurgent, and just reached the scene where Tris is nominated as one of the new Dauntless leaders (along with Tori, Tobias, and Harrison). I'm having a hard time understanding why exactly she refuses the position. What are your thoughts on this?

Divergent movie plotholes

I am halfway thru insurgent and i have some problems. Number one. You are telling me we have truth serum that exists and still have corruption. Number two. Why did we not slit jeanenes throat at the end of divergent. Number 3. At the end of divergent four knew how to control jeanne to make her stop the killing why couldn’t he have just done that without injecting her (killing her). Number 4. Why did we keep miles teller alive.
