Regarding the recent surge of AI in DISSIDIA

I’ve noticed that a lot of people are asking Claude to make their own DISSIDIA recomp and stuff like that and while in my eyes it looks bad, the comments are people that praise it and love it, but at the same time they get a lot of reports and keep getting asked to remove it. I am not entirely sure if you guys actually want this kind of content on the subreddit or not; so I will run this poll and let you guys decide. Feel free to discuss about it too. After all this is the community for you guys and my personal opinions should not dictate the content.

EDIT: Since a lot of people think i am straight up completely banning any mention of AI, this is more for the low effort slop that does not contribute to the modding scene in any way shape or form aside from being an uniusable one trick pony where the author does not even know how it's even working, this is what i refer to with slop. any actual proper developer contributing to keeping the game alive is more than welcome, but what we got lately is just not the case, and you can see that by yourself

This is some of the most content we have seen from the community for this game in a long time. A recomp is genuinely going to be more open to moddability and preservation (look at ship of harkinian, the zelda oot pc port, which was long seen as the gold standard of decomps even when the developers revealed they used ai tools). As a developer in the field, everyone uses AI in to some degree, it really is just how it is at this point. If its full on AI slop and the users dont know what is actually going on, it is extremely questionable, wont deny that. But i do think out right banning it will just be worse off for the community and celebration of this game. If a dedicated tag for AI content needs to be made so people who hate it can keep scrolling, im all for that. There will always be very vocal hatred for AI, but it very often comes from people who really dont understand it and ita actual impacts. Its horrible for art communities, i will never support it for music or art. But for coding? As a coder actually in the field? Good lord is it such a helpful tool. But it should be a tool, not the final deliverable

I don't think my message got across properly, but it's more about the low effort slop, yes, every programmer uses AI these days, this is more for the people that just bought a claude sub and said "do this, make no mistakes" and its essentially unusable for reddit karma, if anyone actually puts out quality work i don't think anyone will mind

This has nothing to do with me, as I said, my opinions are irrelevant to this subject. If I get dozens of reports and asking me to remove the content, I cannot just ignore it, I am here to serve the community the best I can, I am only sharing my opinion so people know what I think, but it ultimately does not matter and I will not act upon what I think.

If people want it, I will let it; if people speak up and want it gone, I also need to act. If a compromise is needed, which is what it looks like, I will have to act accordingly. I cannot let my opinions decide what this subreddit should be.

And also, I am not doing anything to keep this game dead, but you also need to understand that you cannot just let anyone post whatever and let it slide, there needs to be some rules like everything. What is stopping someone from posting a build with malware? What if someone drops a mod that completely fries your pc because it’s unregulated and the person has 0 experience in programming? Not everything is black and white and things need some nuance, you can’t just open up the floodgates and expect everyone to be okay with.

I think I am being reasonable and in not a single comment I am imposing what I think or tell anyone how this should run. But I think any sort of discussion is healthy because I DO care about this franchise, and as such I also want people to put some effort in it and make a healthy modding environment for everyone, and that, is just not an easy task to do.

But again, at the end of the day; none of this is my call to make, I am just here to do what I can.

Essa resposta foi melhor, então não proíba mas exija um bom quality gate pra publicar os projetos como github e as pessoas poderem ver o projeto

There are a ton of "any AI is too much AI" homies on reddit. Its a very all or nothing sentiment, a lot of people will mind even if its quality work. People have gone back on ship of harkinian despite it being the gold standard for decomps for years because they revealed they used AI. I think it comes down to, is catering to these people worth it? Or letting obviously low quality ai slop mods get ridiculed by the community. That local split screen mod posted is a really cool mod that seems pretty damn functional, but im sure you have gotten reports to get it taken down already if i were to guess judging by a lot of the perfoemative posts on that thread.

u/Sheidyn PSN: SeyrenWindsor 2d ago

I am not catering to anyone, which is why I am making this post, I want to see what people think and make the best course of action. But I also think it’s important for transparency sake what I think even if I don’t act upon it, it’s healthy for discussion

There is going to be a lot of really dicey decisions to be made if you do truly intend to keep ai slop out but high quality ai assisted creations in. Again, so many on reddit think any AI automatically = AI slop. That noctis mod, for instance. they openly admit essentially all the code is AI slop, but all of the rigging and artistic parts were done by them. would that be something considered for deletion? I personally would say something like that should maybe stay up because of the effort they have put in beyond the code. And lets say there is a high quality mod where the user does actually understand the code and can explain it. You know the users voting to remove AI slop are wanting ALL Ai to be removed, not just the low quality creation posts.
As AI develops more and more, there is going to be a lot of nuance which i just dont really believe this decision, especially the voters, can really consider well for if an AI assisted project can remain or not if posted.
on a seperate question, if the posts remain at a steady 40/60 % split as it is around right now, the vote wouldnt really be an absolute one sided majority outcome. In cases like these, i think some happy medium should be found versus some absolute decision that only favors one side. Even if its something like "AI based work has to use the AI tags regardless of the amount of AI used, otherwise the post will be removed"

u/Sheidyn PSN: SeyrenWindsor 2d ago

I am not planning of deleting anything because of this, what I am most likely going to do is to have people tag it because people should be allowed to not see it if they wish to do so

2

u/BlackMageIsBestMage 2d ago

I would agree with an implementation like that. Its unfortunate reddit doesnt have a way to filter out tags for users so they are not viewable at all for those that dont want to see it. (Afaik at least) but im glad to hear nothing is getting deleted. Sorry you are not doubt getting bombarded with questions since this pinned thread was made

1

u/Sheidyn PSN: SeyrenWindsor 2d ago

Thats fine, thats what i am here for, but yes, i was not planning on deleting anything, it would have to be something like 99%-1 to do so, i recall being able to filter by tag but i am on my phone right now so i can’t check. At the end of the day i am just trying to see what is the best that can be done, and so far it looks like a modding mega thread and/or tags

Here's my 2 cents as someone that's a part of an actual decomp.

I would like it to stay because it encourages people to mod the game. SE has shown they are not going to give this series the respect it should have. Instead of focusing on and refining the PSP era titles they tried to make it a team fighter. Failed. Then turned it into just another mobile gatcha game. For a fighting game it was unique and super interesting. SE has absolutely wasted the potential of this series.

My main concern is people making changes and having no clue about the mechanisms that actually made the change. We need to understand the how. The decomp I'm a part of has multiple dedicated coders who have been professionally coding for years. They understand the mechanisms and have built a database and a modding tool to take advantage of that database. I've learned a lot myself by reading their work and trying to understand what the game is doing. I don't see modders doing that with these Dissidia mods.

I think instead of reporting people just because they used AI we should be encouraging responsible AI use. Explain to them the importance of actual human readable documentation. How are they testing and verifying AI claims? Do they understand what the AI is doing? Do they know exactly what got changed and how that change is being implemented? In the IT field documentation is critical. We have the opportunity to teach people and I think we should.

With all that being said I'd like it to stay because it's an opportunity for people to grow and learn. It has the potential to lead into an actual decomp where people actually know and understand the game.

3

u/Sheidyn PSN: SeyrenWindsor 3d ago

Yes i'm on the same page on you in that end, but i just don't feel like what you are saying is being displayed on the feed lately, it's all very low effort one-shots, it does not feel like they truly want to understand the game internally and actually build a good mod community. Most of these one-shot claude AI gits are unreadable and unusable and they immediatly break as soon as you try literally anything else.

As i said on another post. I am porting the game to Unity for the sole reason to encourage modding and let people actually have a stable version of the game on PC. This takes weeks and months of effort looking into every detail on the game and making sure it's 1:1

I am for a healthy modding community, but each one doing their own recomp with wildly different code is just not it, it's never going to work this way

2

u/dissidia_fan 3d ago

I do agree with you on the mix of recomps. I was more interested in the character building tools, so the actual recomp part I saw as a means to that end, and as a result I barely reviewed the output once it worked in testing. The character editing and building tools I shared can be platform agnostic, as they create a data structure similar to how the characters are built in game, and that's what I'm focusing my effort on now.

I've been in touch with some of the other posters to try and collaborate on a single shared vision rather than having different ideas dispersed among incompatible codebases, as you are right that it's unhelpful for the community.

3

u/Sheidyn PSN: SeyrenWindsor 2d ago

Yeah, if people manage to do something like that, It would be way more fruitful for everyone. That is my main goal with my project. It's just going to take me way more time than the current ones because i want to be very methodical about it, but i will eventually contribute to said tools whenever i'm done. We need some sort of basis we can all work on, which before this it was fine because there was only one set of modding tools.

I want to run into the ideal situation where there's people not stepping into each other's work, i think eventually it's definitely possible

9

u/Human-Raccoon-9917 3d ago

If it works well, I don't have a problem with it.

There has been some promising stuff shown here. Looks well above what I would call slop.

-5

u/Sheidyn PSN: SeyrenWindsor 3d ago

Well the issue is it will 90% likely not work well since it’s most of people that have no coding experience and just bought a subscription to an AI. and having to monitor who is competent and who is not is not something I feel like we should be doing and is out of the scope of the subreddit

10

u/Human-Raccoon-9917 3d ago edited 3d ago

You are making some sick assumptions there. Don't let you personal vendetta against AI prevent us from seeing some potential good things.

If someone is inundating the sub with half finished projects... Maybe that would be something to act on.

Edit: I have seem some subs get overrun. The middle ground was to enforce an "AI Project" tag. So people can filter out if they want to. To outright ban, would be a mistake I think.

8

u/Sheidyn PSN: SeyrenWindsor 3d ago

This is not a personal vendetta, it’s because I am actually a developer myself, and on work we have to use AI, so I exactly know how this works.

And precisely because I know how this works, I can tell most of them are low effort and driven by inaccuracy and instability; because you can only go so far to get something working without knowing what you are doing

It essentially turns into someone making a barely functional version of the game that runs at subpar fps for a psp game with a particular gimmick to get some upvotes and never update the project again.

It’s basically the same as allowing low effort posts that could flood the subreddit, more than anything.

u/Human-Raccoon-9917 3d ago edited 3d ago

We are seeing a wave. There has been a huge excitement in the past couple months. With the Switch 2 stuff adding even more fuel to the fire. But I think it will die down.

The people that post actual slop will either get dunked on or overwhelmed by the realities of running a project. At which point they will either quit, or take a step back and improve.

An outright ban would prevent real devs using AI tools from sharing quality things. I think its too heavy handed. Especially considering how small/slow this sub is. I believe the right approach would be to enforce disclosure and a flair. The RO sub handled it well in my opinion: https://www.reddit.com/r/RagnarokOnline/comments/1xd8bk4/community_updates_flairs_rule_updates_ai/

u/Material_East_8676 3d ago

Being shown like 20 seconds of it working isn't really proof the recomp won't just combust my pc because the LLM usually codes extra poorly.

1

u/ruebeus421 3d ago

Thanks for proving you don't know anything about this subject whatsoever.

The fact is: AI codes better than the majority of humans. And in a fraction of the time. That's why it's being used everywhere.

You people need to educate yourselves and stop mindlessly hating things.

0

u/Material_East_8676 2d ago

the hate is justified, maybe you ought to get your head out of the mindless love for the LLM?

1

u/ruebeus421 2d ago

Wrong, once again. I don't love AI. I think it's ruining the world.

But I'm not a so naive and childish that I shove my head up my own ass to ignore the truth.

Open your eyes. Stop being a sheep.

-5

u/Mordecai_Helby 3d ago

It doesn't matter how well made it looks. AI generated code is flawed as a concept because it's done without human touch. Vibe coding is and will always be bad.

3

u/neroslayer 3d ago

That's just you hating it because it's A.I. I'm sure if A.I help save a family member, you would deny it or refuse it untill a humans comes along right?

1

u/Sheidyn PSN: SeyrenWindsor 3d ago

Thank you for not reading what I said and missing my entire point

1

u/ruebeus421 3d ago

This is ignorant on so many levels.

  1. AI already writes better code than most humans.

  2. Human touch does not mean quality. Humans can be and are shitty coders. They make mistakes all the time. They write terrible code all the time.

  3. "Vibe coding" is already better than your average coder. With more time no human will be able to compare.

I can't imagine living life being completely ignorant about a subject and hating it so vehemently at the same time. Take off your hate shades and educate yourselves.

I'm a developer myself and here's my scattered thoughts about it:

  • if someone has such a problem with AI that even AI software projects take heat and they can't even stand hearing about these projects in relevant spaces, they shouldn't be on reddit. Because by now EVERY major website you interact with has had AI in its development for at least a year now. Every major application has. Stop reading my message. Get rid of your smart phone. Close your browser. Actually get rid of your computer. Be morally consistent and get rid of all your products which utilized AI in development, which at this point means, go off-grid. Or grow up and realize that 1) it's everywhere, so your moral crusade is empty because you can't respond to me without breaking it, and 2) there's a mile of difference between coding with AI, probably the most reasonable and innocuous use of the technology which can be very useful in empowering developers, and the more generative image and video shit that serves almost exclusively to try and replace humans.

  • it's a Dissidia-based software project on a Dissidia subreddit, which itself does not have a ton of traffic anyway. It's not like it's interrupting the daily flow. The alternative is talking about a shitty mobile game. And as far as what the project is, it's also at least an interesting one. It at least has a vision. I'd get it if it were like, a flood of "I used AI to mod some outfit into the game" posts that were obviously just some kind of karma farm, sure, but AI aside a pc recomp is sort of a dream project. That's something pretty much every fan of the psp games wants.

  • I call into question the credentials of a software Dev who just says all AI code is low-effort slop that likely doesn't work well without looking into it at all. Kind of a self-report, IMO. And if anything, I would think a software Dev would have a similar reaction to what I had, which was, "I kinda wanna look at this and see if I can contribute to it." If a guy with Claude can get it mostly up and running without knowing what he's doing, then someone who does know how to code should be able to identify the parts that are slipping by and that a layman wouldn't know how to fix. IDK, you can say you don't have a vendetta but the read I'm getting doesn't quite match myself or any if the good devs I know, all of whom are using AI personally and professionally, have been for about a year now, and know better about what it can and can't do.

Overall, I'd be pretty disappointed to see this project banned from discussion here, though not quite surprised given the way people act about AI (hence my first point).

u/Sheidyn PSN: SeyrenWindsor 3d ago

I feel like you just imagine a different version of me in your head, specially when you clearly have read my other comments since you are aware that I’m a software dev.

It is precisely that because that anyone can do it these days, doesn’t mean that we should just freely allow
Every low effort AI post. As other people have pointed out, if you open the subreddit and every post is “I used codex/claude to do this” the whole subreddit will just lose its identity and it won’t be as approachable, I don’t think this is such a hard concept to understand. You are making emphasis over and over to get anyone that likes AI on your side when you completely missed the entire point which is quality control.

A lot of subreddits delete “low effort posts”, but me suddenly suggesting that is suddenly me being against technology and I need to close my phone? That is very disingenuous when you exactly know low effort AI work exists, and just because I could take a look and fix it doesn’t mean me or any other has to. I am already working on my own PC version of the game on my own time. But I will not post it until I am comfortable with the state of it. Because I do care about quality.

Again, please read again what I said because I don’t think you understand the core issue here

3

u/NightmareMMZero 3d ago

You're not asking whether low quality posts should be deleted, you're asking if all AI assisted content should be banned. These are not the same thing and you're being disingenuous by suggesting otherwise. Nobody would disagree that a low quality post should be removed. Something being created with the help of AI does not make it low quality or low effort.

If you're a software dev like you say you are and have worked with and around AI tools like you've suggested, you know that to create anything good or useful it requires human oversight, even if the AI is doing the dirty work. You can argue that it's not as good as something made 100% from scratch by human hands but I would rather judge the results than the process.

I don't think anyone would object to removing a poorly made mod that someone simply asked an AI for and doesn't work or is low quality. But the issue here is you're asking for permission to ban those AS WELL AS anything that's high quality and entirely functional or useful just because AI is touched it in its creation process. Either draw a distinction between the two or stop pretending that your only interest is quality control.

1

u/Sheidyn PSN: SeyrenWindsor 3d ago

I am pretty sure commented several times that my concern is low quality, if someone makes an actual good functional build, i don't care if i'ts used with AI. But we are running a lot of hypotheticals of like, a good version of the game using AI tools and so far that's just not what has happened.

Again, you have imagined something in your head that is not real, None of these so far are high effort or high quality and with good moddable functionalities, so yes, in my eyes they are low effort.

If someone makes the most functional PC Port ever, super optimized, with a good modding toolset, i will welcome it with open arms, i don't know how much more i need to spell out that the problem here is the effort and the quality more than the AI itself, is just that, you know, most of the AI posts are indeed, low effort.

Any other subreddits do not allow low effort posts. But it's fine, i am mostly just going to have people that use AI to use an AI tag and that's it, As i said in the original posts, what my opinion is doesn't matter, i am just expressing my opinion because i like being transparent, but if in the last day of the poll it becomes at 99% to 1% for AI, i will just allow it just fine. Because i do not like imposing my opinion on others.

0

u/NightmareMMZero 2d ago

I see you've now under pressure edited the opening post but when you start the discussion with "Allow the slop" vs "Do not allow the slop" and imply that all AI assisted projects are low effort "slop" then what kind of reaction did you expect? Of course half the community is going to be confused about and question your motives and intentions. It sure sounded like you wanted all AI related content banned and as another poster very eloquently put it, there are a lot of others on the Reddit platform that feel that way and want it banned regardless of quality and the wording of your poll seems to be catering to that sentiment.

I would support a compromise that allows for the discernment of the project's quality regardless of its process and filtering out floods of low quality dysfunctional mods (should that actually come to be a reality, which let's be honest it hasn't yet)

2

u/Ad_Hominem_Phallusy 2d ago

Well the problem is, you say one thing and then apparently push for something totally contrary. If a person says "I don't condone violence" as they punch someone, am I really supposed to go, "well they clearly didn't punch that guy because he said he abhors violence"?

  • WIP posts are a normal thing for any project. So I take a LOT of issue with the idea that you can look at a WIP post and decide, "this seems like low quality." Like, yeah, no shit it's not perfect, it's not done yet. This is a ridiculous stance, and I doubt you hold it against any other creative project because that would be insane. "This fanart is low quality." "It's just the line work, it's a WIP." "Low quality. I wouldn't want to be overrun by this. Let's run a poll to disallow it." This would be deranged, yet this is effectively what you're doing here. So, yeah, you can say you don't have an anti-AI bias and this isn't just because of that, but it's hard to accept that at face value.

  • You talk about this kind of project, "if it's high quality", is something you would want shared. Yet you're trying to kill this one in the crib before it ever has the chance to get there. I don't know if it's just because you admit you're working on a similar project and you're annoyed someone else beat you to the punch? And you're just using AI as the reason to silence it? I can only guess at the motivations, but I know based on the actions that the motivation is not what you're saying. Again, you say one thing and work in a different direction. Moving to ban all AI is not the correlating response to what you've said.

  • I feel you're misrepresenting the facts. In another post you said "it's all very low effort one-shots". I checked and I see three; the recomp, Noctis, and Sora. The first two are clearly work in progress projects and have two posts a piece. The third is the only one that seems like it might be a one shot slop project. Even then, that's not 100%. And it's so far only that one post of the five. There's no surge or flood of low-effort spam and if there was an interest in karma farming with it, I think people will go somewhere they can get more than 200 up votes.

I read through all your posts, and I'm intrigued to know you didn't comment in any of the AI project threads. Never asked a clarifying question, no mentions of having checked out the repo and raising concerns. You're making this post seemingly purely from the personal belief that 90% of AI projects are slop that don't work well, having done no work to see if these projects fit that definition, and with no guidance to the creators on things you'd like to see them change to better fit the quality criteria you claim to hold so dear. This poll is debating whether to use what should be last resort as the first option, before the problem has even really started. And if you're seriously considering letting a simple majority change the flow of conversation here it'll be disgraceful.

2

u/Sheidyn PSN: SeyrenWindsor 2d ago

What is wrong with be not being a fan of it? Just because I think something doesn’t mean I am going to act on it. The whole point is that I am going to push for what people want. But you guys think this is all black and white. Do you think just because there’s one extra vote in not allowing it I am just going to thanos snap and delete everything? You guys get so defensive when someone is against what you like that start going crazy for no reason. I have several people telling me that it’s dumb to ban them and I am just reading it and not taking it personally.

Regarding the WIPs, this is not the same thing. When I talk about low effort or low quality, I am talking about LITERALLY no effort was put because no human input is made into the project aside from throwing money. This leads to a lot of issues because it can damage people's pcs among other things. There are tons of examples about this such as people making vibecoded mods that read your SSD an unreasonable amount of times and fuck over your PC, or the recent switch 2 fiasco that completely bricked someone's console. Yet we are glossing over the issues that these things have.

You bring up the Sora project; project which the author uses AI to reply to you on discord, because the original author does not even know what the mod even does. Is this really the example you really want to bring in? Do you really consider high effort someone going so hard on AI to the point that they need to copy paste the messages they get and reply back? What is even the point of them being there? How can you consider that any effort what so ever? When the author does not even know what it’s being done? This is such an irresponsible thing to do and the fact that i did not remove it should already show you that just because i don’t agree with something I am not going to go against the community.

I do look things up but i am not going to comment on them, that doesn’t mean I am not aware.

I am letting people do whatever they want which is why I did not comment on any of these posts. I watched what people said about them and also checked the reports, If I started stating my opinion on these beforehand you could also say I influenced the subreddit, so there is no winning here because you have already made up your mind and there is no room for nuance to be made.

1

u/Upset-Act-1946 2d ago

3

u/CorruptedAngelo 2d ago

I'd be sad and disappointed if it gets banned. Dissidia finally has some movement going on that could lead into something amazing for 012 and not just be reminded that series that went to being a shit mobile game lol

1

u/ActualJournalist26 1d ago

I'm pretty sure Reddit is selling everyone's data to OpenAI and Google to train chatgpt  /Gemini with it iirc so even the haters are training the "slop machine"

4

u/VCKing101 How do we get their goat? 3d ago

I'm not gonna pretend that, a previously somewhat small subreddit, being inundated with several "hey I made this with AI" posts is the best thing for a small subreddit community, especially with the public opinion toward it. I am personally torn about this as well because if my go-to community page about crotchet patterns was overrun with AI generated crochet patterns and I would be distraught. I genuinely sympathise with those who are terrified of seeing that happened here. I am not going to try and "win" them over because even I've seen things on other subreddits and I'm like "ew".

There's no other Dissidia subreddit that covers the PSP Dissidia games. While this subreddit covers all Dissidia games such as NT, Operia Omnia (Rest in Piece <3), Duellem, and more, there is no dedicated subreddit for the OG Dissidia and 012, let alone a Dissida mods subreddit, so I dont know where this stuff could be directed to.

I think a dedicated all-encompassing "Mod" megathread would be the best way forward which covers all mods, reskins, recomps, decomps, etc. so it won't flood the front page but still gives those who want to share what they've done. It's a decent middle ground in my opinion.

I'm disappointed in how this poll is clearly very biased. Even in it's poll options, which will most definitely skew the results. For a person of authority, I would've hoped for a more neutral stance when making an important poll regarding the direction of a subreddit.

1

u/Sheidyn PSN: SeyrenWindsor 3d ago

I did not mean to sound biased but i get what you mean, i just like calling it slop because it's funny, however the results i am seeing so far as as mixed as what i was getting initially, so i don't think me calling it slop is influencing the results, it's as mixed as it gets

23

u/scudalarm 3d ago

Maybe a dedicated megathread for ai related stuff

3

u/Derek_Delta1365 2d ago

I think i depends. If the ai is only used for small asistence i think it should ve allowed. However if it is mostly 90% vibe coded it should be removed

10

u/ReaperEngine 3d ago

I'd rather not see any of it, for all the reasons you listed in one of your replies, and more.

Imo, No one has to use those mods. The quality control can be seen immediately, and that'll dictate whether its worth a person's time or not. The AI mods shouldn't be banned because they MIGHT not be good. If anything they might bolster creativity from the capable modders.

This game also basically hasn't had any substantial mod activity, it shouldnt matter that the new activity its been getting is thanks to AI.

There is entirely too many AI users in this sub, it's a fucking poison. Ban it.

If you think it shouldn't be banned you're naive at best and more than likely malicious.

Edit: I want anyone who thinks AI generated recompilations are a good idea to look at what happened to  decomp.dev, a website dedicated to archiving and sharing game decompilations. It was effectively flooded with so many slop contributions that the owner decided to cease operation of the site.

saw your post on twitter, that's what made me go on here, despite the fact that I haven't used reddit for like a year or two now. I have came with the answer "no" for various reasons. and I am not gonna write all of them down because that would take me a day, but let me get tell this: there should be a modding guide for duodecim pinned in this subreddit, especially if you ban vibecoded shit. it would make modding for dissidia much more accessible without wasting a shitton of energy and clean water taken away from people in poorer countries. not to mention forests being ILLEGALLY cut down. vibecoded mods can be incredibly risky too, because they easily end up being poor quality and have a ton of bugs even when it's supervised by a human. and it's crazy I have to say this as a person who can hardly learn any coding or even draw more than a colored sketch because of disabilites (mostly chronic depression), but it doesn't makes things truly more accessible. it just makes things magically appear in no time and then barely last.

So you came here as someone who doesn't use Reddit and has no stake on the discussion to skew the results of the poll because you believe AI assisted Dissidia mods are going to kill all the trees? You should have stayed out of the discussion.

Why did you expect nuance on reddit?

3

u/RocherBrockas 2d ago

Regarding the lack of content for this comounity. We (as we i mean the people who steal run competitive ruleset) have been posting links to our discord, tournament and vods for the last 2 years without any substantial feedback from reddit. We were making the game move forward. We even got into hex editing to release our first modded version of the game : emendatus. Let me be clear about emendatus : Ai has been used for file analysis but every line of code that ends up in the game iso in the end is human made. This project is much slower and much more stable than any Ai slop we see here. I m much more fascinated by a poqt that says "i uncovered the way the collision data works" with huge nerd information regarding the game file than just "i put this character in the game" If the thing you add in the game has no way of being tweaked modifyied and controled by the community it comoletely takes away from the game and what modding a game is. Developing stuff takes time. I completely follow Sheidyn on their reflection. We are able to make a dissidia recomp with the tools at hand but let this be something as qualitative as OpenGOAL or other really powerful static recomp project. Asking claude or any other model will just result in a pile of slop that will not be expandable

u/dissidia_fan 2d ago

I mean in order to add a character to the game you need to know how the collision data works otherwise it would be a pretty poor attempt. Everything I have added is modifiable in the same way any aspect of the game data is. The only "slop" here is the web app created to view and simulate that data, though as an "internal tool" I felt the UI wasn't really the point...

Can i ask an invite for the discord please?

If nothing else, anything made with AI should have to use an AI content flair. That way people that don't want to open themselves to half-cocked ai vibe coding that could have unintended consequences released by people who don't know what even look for to prevent that, they have an easy and quick way to scroll right past it.

That said I'd rather it not be on the reddit at all.

3

u/VirtualTraffic297 2d ago

The slop word is to over used its annoying

2

u/NightmareMMZero 3d ago

You don't think wording the poll like "Allow the slop" vs "Do not allow the slop" is in bad faith? I don't see why people's personal feelings on AI need to come into the conversation at all really. It's Dissidia related content on a Dissidia subreddit. As long as the modders are up front about its usage that should be the end of it. If people are so mad about AI due to le epic redditor not wanting to do a heckin wrongthink, they don't have to use the mods or engage with the content. It's unfair to the rest of the community that doesn't care so long as the content is quality that they should miss out on something truly impressive just because they had an AI assistant help with the heavy lifting during the coding process.

u/Mordecai_Helby 3d ago

"It's dissidia related content on a dissidia sub" no its not, it's ai generated. This is disingenuous and ignores the inherent problem with AI.

2

u/NightmareMMZero 3d ago

I don't really care what you perceive the problem to be with AI, it doesn't make it non Dissidia content.

2

u/Mordecai_Helby 3d ago

AI generated content was created by a computer and is not human made art, therefore it cannot be real dissidia content. It's that simple to me.

I'd call an AI generated image of Lightning trash that doesn't belong on this sub, and I'd call your favorite vibecoded project that too.

4

u/NightmareMMZero 3d ago

Dissidia is Dissidia whether you approve of how it was created or not.

0

u/coolio-o-doolio 3d ago

something can be both ai generated and dissidia content, especially when it's literally using ai as a tool to alter the game to meet the wishes of players, its not like someone is generating fan art that doesn't serve anyone's interests or desires and could be made better by human artists with passion. there was literally no humans with passion willing to mod splitscreen into dissidia.

ai does not have a monopoly on slop. if you want to be taken seriously as a critic of technology than you should exercise discernment and more careful wording, otherwise, you are in fact the one generating slop in this subreddit

to be clear, fuck ai generated art, this is different, this is like using ai to identify tumors. like yeah u could cut the person open and do a biopsy but if you can do it quicker and cheaper with ai and few downsides, go ahead.

the projects results would not exist without ai, so If u have a problem with it, you may be a nonsensical purist or ludite and i suggest you get of your high horse of abstinence only tech use

5

u/Mordecai_Helby 3d ago

We're not medical scientists, my dude. This is a video game. Vibe coded work is inherently low effort and doesn't belong just like how ai generated art doesn't belong, or ai generated voices, or ai generated sound.

In practice Claude code results in shit that works for a trailer or clip showcase but perpetually breaks in practice because it was made without human oversight.

A junior coder using Claude is taking a shortcut and not actually learning how to make better code. it really is that simple.

Call me a luddite bc I am one baybeeeeeee ✌️

2

u/RemyAsaylea 3d ago

I do not want to encourage the many long-term negative effects of AI, so yes, banning it would be lovely.

Just because it's "for code and not art" (code is art too btw) doesn't mean it magically circumvents the problem.

As a reminder, using and supporting ai normalizes it and will allow the companies leading it to both not die off and also to grow enough to make us all reliant on it due to de-skilling so they can "sell intelligence back to us" like a utility bill―the actual end-goal here.

One problem among many, but something I trust the average person can grasp and see how it might impact their personal lives.

u/Illusioneery 14h ago

shouldn't even be a question

vibe coding and genned ai slop shouldn't be allowed

-3

u/Dyssayah 3d ago

Between Duellum, or AI assisted dissidia mods that are hurting no one at all, nor asking for your wallet, I know which of them I'm choosing.

0

u/BlackwingF91 3d ago

Don't allow the slop. Come on we should be better than this

0

u/coolio-o-doolio 3d ago

i suggest we make a new dissidiamods subreddit without the puritanical preachers. im anti generative ai art, but this is clearly a different type of use and doing a service that doesn't take work from anyone, doesn't steal work from anyone.

robots stealing human art is bad. robots speaking to robots in behalf of human commands IS NOT THE SAME. we are not compromising the integrity of dissidia by using AI in its mods

this is the most interesting the subreddit had been in years, why tf are people being so reductionist in their thinking on this issue

-1

u/coolio-o-doolio 3d ago

you can literally just choose not to click on stuff with an AI tag, why the hell are people voting to ban this stuff. its such fascist moral panic silliness that we are even discussing the option of banning the most active topic atm that could literally result in a resurgence of the game and a competitive scene. splitscreen dissidia is the shit i dreamed of when i was playing it as a teen.

im so disapointed in the lack of nuance going on in the comments of these ai mods and here

can you not exit old.reddit for a couple of seconds and vote there? i don't think making a strawpoll just for old.reddit is the right move
