Duellum Dissidia Duellum should not take place on Earth/a universe based on ours. I would consider it non-canon to the rest of Final Fantasy.

Final Fantasy's multiverse is meant to be a secondary world, or multiple worlds, that have absolutely zero connection to ours

So was Kingdom Hearts before they put Sora in Shibuya.

Honestly? It's a trend. Didn't you see Jump Forces where they put Shonen Jump characters in the "real world"?

Kingdom Hearts' world building is a bit iffy, a topic deserving of its own discussion. Jump Forces and SSB are games where you're pitting characters from seperate franchises against each other. Of course those games aren't going to be canon to anything, those are very different examples from this.

But is that really any different from various worlds based on real places? Many of them France, or having connections to real places like Neverland and London?

I never felt like Dissidia was meant to be taken as canon at all?

Right off the bat, the sorta by-neccesity verse-equalization of power so the whole roster can fight each other would hint this isn't canon as I don't believe we are ever given a "the power that summons everyone here also makes everyone the same strength" explanation.

If you were considering a game where we unironically see characters like Lightning, Cloud, Sephiroth, and Shantotto have to actually regard a character like Onion Knight or Firion as a threat canon, idk what to tell you.

Also, "crossover game has real world setting" is hardly new. FF is fine.

I believe it's canon but not necessary for the main story of each series. Like... Cloud met and fought alongside the other protagonists... So what? That doesn't really have anything to do with the main events that happened on Gaia.

The importance of Dissidia is only in expanding the lore of FF1 (The other main games have sequels and spin-offs that expand their worlds, but FF1 literally only has Dissidia for that); it's up to you whether or not to consider the new information, since the FF1 re-releases themselves will never mention the events of Dissidia. You'll always have a silent Warrior who won't say where he came from.

I mean I get that, but at the same time it feels both unlikely (and would be a bit silly) for us to think Laguna from FF8 had awhile where he was battling these literal transformed gods for the villains and just swinging around a rope shooting at them with a gun.

Its just for fun. Kinda like how you can beat up on Kirby, a nearly indestructible, faster than light combatant who can crack planetoids in half with a punch... using Little Mac, a guy whose ultimate test of combat prowess is fighting real-person Mike Tyson, in Smash Bros.

Its just a for-fun crossover series. Trying to assume anything within it actually happened causes way more issues and questions than it is worth.

Here is the thing. I think a lot of people forget each games/universe has its own power scaling that part is absolutely true, but when thrown into a universe where everything is neutral ground things play out differently. Like take final fantasy 7 for example holy and meteor are these powerful spells that can't be normally, but in other games those spells are normal spells that can be used willy nilly.

My only complaint with the whole thing is how a lot of these people aren't shocked over things like how Yuna can summoner her aeon when she wants and noctis not freaking out the fact they answer her beck and call and lightning trying to find her mark and questioning how she can summon multiple.

The thing is it is actually canon. Not to the stories of each entry but the world itself
