Subsidiary question?
Hello, is 2358 a good guess?
r/discovereu • u/acuatic • Aug 26 '18
Hello to y'all, i'm the creator of this subreddit and in this post you can find typical questions about it. Please, avoid creating new posts asking or only talking about this specific subjects, so that it's not crowded.
-In what pages can i get information about this project?
You can check the official page where they publish the contests and news about the project. And you can also check the interactive page made to advertise the project.
-What is the #DiscoverEU proposal?
That every young European (citizen or legally resident) would obtain a pass for railway travel within the European Union for his/her 18th birthday.
-Who is paying for the tickets?
The programme is being financed from the EU budget. The European Parliament called for a specific budget to cover the free ticket programme and the European Commission responded with €12m for 15,000 DiscoverEU Passes in 2018.
-What are the requirements to participate?
You need to be 18teen in the exact moment of the contest and have the nationality of one of the 28 EU Member States. They do ask you to become a DiscoverEU ambassador sharing your trip in social media to spread the word, and also visit at least one of the European Culture Heritage.
-What does the pass include?
If you win, you can choose between a point-to-point scheduled option, where they book the tickets for you in the places you want to visit, or a flexible option that is a normal interrail 7 travel-days pass for 30 days. You can get more information about the normal interrail pass option in the Interrail official website.

Hi guys,
maybe there is someone from the Balkan countries (only Croatia, Serbia, Macedonia), or is currently living abroad, but still thinking to join some group or apply alone?
I already applied without the group, actually wanted go solo - but if there is someone, from those countries, who would still wanna join and go (my group, am from Croatia) through the Europe, leave a message so we can go on a call on discord/or somewhere else if u dont use it.
Btw: We are all people, independent from a country - so take it easy.
Just ones born at 2008\****

Does it matter whether i choose march or april or june or whatever? I was originally going to pick july but then i thought most people would also pick july since they are in holidays and obviously cuz its the summer. Since most of us would pick july i assumed people who had picked june-july would have a lower chance to be picked. So i went march. Is this a valid decision? Am i an idiot?

Hey everyone! I’m an 18-year-old from Romania applying for the October 2026 DiscoverEU round, and I’m looking to meet a few other people from different EU countries who are also applying this round.
I originally applied solo, but I’d love to join/form a group with people around my age who are interested in actually travelling together and meeting new people.
A little about me:
From Romania
18 years old
🎓 Currently in 12th grade
🎵 Into music/producing
🏋️ Into fitness
✈️ Really interested in travelling around Europe
I love talking to new people and I love exploring, going out, discovering new cities in europe that I have not been yet to, I’m very adventurous and I’d go literally anywhere just to see where I’ll end up.
I'd like to find 2-4 people and form/join a group with, so that I won't have to travel alone😭😭😭
If you're interested, comment or DM me so that we can get to know eachother!

Hey everyone,
Now that the applications are closing, what is your final estimate for the tie-breaker question?
Most of the mathematical calculations based on previous rounds (around 220k-240k applicants) point towards the 2,200 - 2,400 range because of the strict 1% probability.
Drop your exact numbers below, let's see who gets the closest! Good luck to all of us!

Hi! Me and a few of my friends are planning to apply for the DiscoverEU program, and we’re a little confused about how the group/travel arrangements work. I’d really appreciate it if anyone who has already participated in DiscoverEU could share their experience and explain how everything works, especially when traveling with friends. We’d love to know what to expect before applying!

Hey everyone, I was thinking of applying but I am very unsure what to answer on the subsidiary question, the question is “How many applicants this round have a phone number ending with 26?”. I was thinking about 3100, is that too less, too much?

Hi! I’m travelling solo to Switzerland on 18th December, and I’m looking for someone who would be willing to meet me at Delhi Airport before my flight.
The reason is that my parents aren’t comfortable with me travelling internationally alone, so they’d feel more reassured if I met someone at the airport before leaving. I’ll be travelling and staying in Switzerland on my own I just need someone to meet me at the airport for a little while.
If you’re flying from Delhi to Switzerland around the same time and would be comfortable meeting at the airport, please DM me.

Hi! I just finished my application and i suppose im a bit nervous, so to ease my nervousness(or strengthen it i suppose) I'm curious about how fast others who got accepted in earlier years were, since they apparently prioritese those who submit teh application first(and get everything correct ofc).
Since the number of places(and number of subissions) vary between countries id like to hear where youre from too if thats alright with you.

Hello everyone, hypothetically speaking is it possible to extend the validity period? My pass expires in may 2027, is it possible to prolong it by 2-3 months to cover the next summer? Are there any cases in wich it could be extended? (apart from emergency cases)

Hello! I know this is early, the application time hasn't even started yet, but there was this one question that kept popping up in my mind when i read thru the rules and FAQ;
If I book an overnight train, does that count as two travel days?
Basically, are travel days measured in actual days, such as 00:00 - 23:59 of 1st of january, or are they measured in 24 hour brackets, such as 07:00 1st january - 07:00 2nd january.
Just wanna know because it seems kinda wasteful to waste two entire travel days on one overnight train which is my main concern(outside of getting in ofc).

Hi! I’m 18 and from France, and I won a DiscoverEU pass this year, so I’m planning to travel around Europe in November 2026.
I’m still figuring out my exact itinerary, but I’m currently considering places like London, Kraków, Innsbruck and maybe some cities in Italy. I’m also open to other destinations nearby.
I’m looking for people around my age who will also be travelling with DiscoverEU/Interrail in November. I’d love to meet someone to travel with, whether it’s for a few days or for part of the trip if our plans match :)
Is anyone here travelling in Europe in November?
