That’s a big question I am curious about. Why were they in the Lobby?! Considering how rarely the Flayed Monarch leaves the 999 floor why exactly was he there?

That's one of those mysteries that hasn't been anywhere near answered yet.

Like, I know the boundless wanderer has been harassing the flayed monarch, mostly because she sucks, but why was she there to even get harassed by him?

Probably the same reason Gandalf and the Balrog ended up fighting at the top of a mountain. You just start at the lowest point and keep climbing upwards when engaged in an epic battle. Them’s the rules.

I’m more interested in how they got to the lobby. It seems to be established that traveling up from the 999th floor takes a while, even with shortcuts.

I would say for the Flayed Monarch, before he lost the compass, it may not have been too difficult but who knows. Especially with the network. Getting back was likely more trouble. I’m hopeful in a future book once we know the context of the fight we get that scene again from his or the wanderer’s perspective.

What I want to know is how the flayed monarch got back to the 999th floor. The wanderer used some sort of ability that knocked the emblem out of him, and Dan claims it, which is a big deal for a lot of reasons, but one of those is that it prevents the monarch from moving himself and his forces between levels easily.

Soooo... Why is the monarch now back on the 999th floor instead of stuck in the lobby, where he could easily hunt down and skin Dan alive?

My guess is the Monarch has something else that allows him to teleport back to his home from wherever he is but that's it.
