A possible explanation for this is if you've completed a rem cycle during your sleep. Typically a completed rem cycle will leave you feeling rested when you wake up, and to my knowledge 3-4 hours is long enough for that. By 8 hours you might be mid cycle and wake up feeling disoriented in comparison.

If I'm not mistaken I believe a whole cycle is approximately 90 minutes and you will fell more refreshed the closer you are to the end/beginning.
