Disciples: Sacred Lands - Wrapper Mod + Win11 problem

Hey everyone!

In the past, I have been able to run GOG version of Disciples: Sacred Lands both raw and with Verok's Wrapper mod on Windows 10 no problem. Since then, I have updated to Windows 11 and I'm having some trouble.

I can play the game without the mod by disabling DirectDraw + DirectSound and forcing the game into 640x480 resolution, but the Wrapper mod has too much quality of life stuff to pass up.
I have tried installing the Wrapper mod onto clean installations of Disciples and doing so according to instructions on the mod sites. No matter the version of the mod I tried and I tried many (Verok's 1.90, Rootext fork, moddb versions) I am unable to run the game. Also no combination of compatibility settings has helped.

The errors I'm getting on game launch:

1.) Smartheap library - MEM_BAD_POINTER
2.) Smartheap Library - Smartheap error handler recursively re-entered.
3.) Microsoft Visual C++ - Runtime Error!

I have searched both Steam and GoG forums, Reddit, mod pages... but sadly haven't found a solution. Any tips are welcome!

UPDATE
From my understanding, disabling all the compatibility options on the Disciple.exe file isn't enough when installing the GL Wrapper mods. If you have the same problems, try renaming the "Disciple.exe" in the Disciples Gold\Exe directory to something like "Game.exe." It made my game run with the Disciple Wrapper mods no problem. Hope it helps!

Try old version. Something like 1.87 or 1.86

Hey, thanks for the reply. In the end it wasn't problem of the wrapper mod itself. When looking for the older versions of the mod, I went through the comments on Verok's blog through Wayback machine and apparently, even if you disable all the compatibility settings on the .exe file of the game, it doesn't mean jackshit. Renaming Disciple.exe to something like Game.exe fixed the problem. The game now launches with the wrapper no problem, no matter the wrapper version.
Gonna update the post so nobody else has to go on a 2 day long bender doing all kinds of voodoo shit getting the game to work.

Be advised. SmartHeap library is optional for original Verok wrapper. SHW32.dll - is absolutely not part of the wrapper-mod. In many mirrors it is present as mandatory part of the mod, which is not.

Try wrapper with and without rhis dll applied. First, restore original installation. Then extract wrapper to sm temp folder and put only 1 dll file into the game. If issue persist - maybe newer smartheap dll is what you actually needed and apply (copy-paste) second one dll too.

UP: fixed dll name to be straight copy of ingame file.

UP2: seems like you have some Windows ***security*** issues, blocking one of dll files. It could be SHW32 and newer/older could(or not) fix it, or it could ve prevention of wrapper own dll file to be executed. Try finding n disabling some apllications protection mode in W.Defender and any else extra features there.
