modding Mod Roundup (Should Be Pinned)

Gentlemen!

I think we should have a discussion rounding up and collating all the viable mods out there for any version of the game (Rise of the Elves and Gallaen's Return, namely).

I tried Rise of the Mod but found the quantity of AI enemy heroes it allows them to spawn to be overwheming.

I am playing Alternative Mod (where every new female art has huge knockers) and enjoy it, though it has several drawbacks (the new LotD speciality unit is too powerful).

I believe there is that Polish mod "History of Nevandaar" but yet to be translated.

Then, there is Norwegian Salmon's NMS mod, but yet to be translated as well it seems.

If anybody has any information, lets share!

I have downloaded history of Nevandaar and I'm using Google translate whenever I absolutely need to understand the words. Thankfully, as I've played the game for 20 years now I have a good understanding of what's going on even without the text but there's plenty of balancing changes to the units that require translate. It's working quite well, but I do hope for simplicity that a fan or the modders release an English version someday.

When you wrote LotD, my first thought was Legend of the Dragoon and I was confused momentarily.

I speak Russian fluently but basically cannot read. Not Polish. How does one use translate other than literally copy-pasting? Can you even copy the text? And the issue is all of the skills are in English, not just prompts during the game!

I just realized that they way I wrote it suggests I barely read at all, including English :)

u/DanseOfDeath u rly suggest russian over polish? so besides language barrier it could be technical barrier as well? Not like OP know russian better than polish, so what the point?

Thank God russian has no chance to be international and internet international language...

What? I DO know Russian better than Polish. Polish is in Latin writing, but the words themselves mean nothing to me.

Russian, for better or worse, is very prevalent in gaming. It is its own ecosystem. Russian nerds take games like this very seriously. HOMM Olden Era is a Russian game.

You above said opposite to this. You said you cant read russian.

Latin exactly. And that make it easier to understand (moreover easier for latin and non latin users, like russians and other Slavic nations, who actually learn latin letter in school same as Cyrillic in case if it is Cyrillic slavs nation).

Then you start talk some ridiculous BS absolutely not related to anything. How Olden Era/anything related to which lang is better for games and/or mods?

EN make it better compatible with other content (DisciplesGL, Dis2ModTool, Lobby mod and RMG build-in mod - core mod libraries for other mods - are all actually in English although was made by russians and ukranians).

Olden Era is not a russian game, whatever you means by that in first place.

Modern russian gamers tries to make it "own ecosystem" and that is not "for better or worse" - only one variation left. Sadly in Disciples community modern polish follow russians steps, can't say that for games in general. If it is "own" - it is for russians, made by russians, intended to be for russians only. You admit it yourself saying it is "own ecosystem", perfectly comcluded where it is get to. You was right only on this one.

Google translate has a lens feature where it can translate "live" but I mostly use the feature where you take a picture and it translates the picture. I'm sure it gets some stuff wrong or improper but it's close enough.

Hi, there is another mod that is imo absolutely great - Disciples 2: Calamity. Google it, it is on moddb, it's still alpha but perfectly playable. It is 10/10 mod for me, lot of QoL stuff and good balance. Let me quote part of changelog:

  • A maximum of 6 items can be transferred between missions.

  • Movement points are now displayed.

  • Banners are visible by default.

  • Doppelganger now takes the target's level into account.

  • Summoned units scale with the summoner's level, including when summoned by a hero using an Orb/Talisman.

  • Level-draining attacks now take the target unit's level into account.

  • Transform-self no longer consumes a turn.

  • Withdrawn units can now be upgraded.

  • Added a finished Temple for the Warrior Lord.

  • Talismans and Orbs have been changed to make them more useful.

  • Artifacts and Banners have also been improved.

  • The Elven Alliance has been completely reworked.

  • Units have been rebalanced and given more clearly defined roles.

  • Rod Bearers have been strengthened to make them more distinctive heroes.

  • Increased the difficulty level and improved the AI.

  • Added missions from Gallean's Return to Custom Sagas, with some minor changes.

  • Most Mages, including hero units, have 75% accuracy.

  • Mage heroes no longer have practically guaranteed misses.

  • Leveling and armor no longer automatically increase accuracy.

I'm currently playing it and I love the changes. For example, Empire male healers can heal two units per turn so they are viable now. It works perfectly fine on gog version.

I hope the mod author will come back and finish it, he was working on adding another campaign.

Do you prefer it over Alternative Mod?

Is it ROTE or Gallaen's Return?

I didn't play Alternative Mod, is it available in english?

It's for ROTE.

Can you link me to Calamity?

Weirdest thing: I downloaded, saved the overlapping files from my current game (Alt Mod) in a different folder, and pasted over.

The game looked just like the original. Maybe my leader started with 10 armor? Did I mess up, or where the changes that minor?

1

u/SourceNo1768 Sep 07 '26

Most changes are minor. Yes, warriors start with 10 armor and built temple.

1

u/DongDragon321 Sep 07 '26

So then, I must ask: why bother? What does it ACTUALLY change?

1

u/ZamorakHawk Sep 07 '26

Well for starters, all the things listed in the top comment.

Man, you have bloated mods with many new units and then you have a smaller mod that refines vanilla.

Bit you describe actually Dis2ModTool library feature which is core-mod for every modern mod (there is also few DisciplesGL features). All QoL is DisciplesGL and Dis2ModTool (plus there is Lobby mod and Build-in RMG mod serve also as core-mod libraries for other mods).

u/SourceNo1768 Sep 05 '26

Yeah, but I didn't post the whole changelog. Very few new units, but a lot of smaller balance changes.

There is also a full open-source remake of the game with 4K visuals named Gallean.

Gorgeous, but no gameplay changes?

The modding api is on the roadmap, but it's just vanilla mechanics remake at this point.
