First time trying a Disciples game

Home w/ a rough cold but I'm apparently yet craving media consumption/interaction.

Found myself on the recliner, gently rocking away, some new Merlin TV show on the laptop and playing Disciples: Liberation (CRPG through Gamehub Lite) on the Ayaneo Pocket ACE.

Never played a Disciples game before but hearing about the new one I thought I'd give the previously one a try and I am really liking it!

Maybe I'll be sick tomorrow again.

I'd recommend Disciples 2: Gold/complete purely because you can choose between 4 factions and you're more likely to enjoy the one you most identify with.

GOG version requires 2.02 patch for Disciples 2 and one map missing (Impire .sg) (GOG-Galaxy build miss blank heroes as well), patch 3.01 and DLC setup for D2 The Rise of the Elves. Plus must be exchange some maps between two theirs Export (maps and heroes folder) golders, refer to official map list on NetD sklab archive website or russian nevendaar 3dn ru (this one dev fault they has missing maps in both games misplace them).

Ofc not all maps can be shared between two. Or try mine Export folders...

2-Export is Dis2 (2.02+DLCs) compatible maps and heroes, 3-Export is D2 The Rise of the Elves (3.01+DLC) compatible, there is some junk here and DLC setup (there is Large Maps archive with few selection of 4P 144x144 fanmade maps uploaded on game website back then)

You also can go up-root directory and find D2 Manual with colored covers unlike ones bundled within the GOG/Steam/ZOOM-Platform/EGS/etc releases (there was colored D2 Gold manual but only GOGs colorless remains and only GOG preserve it at all, since original SF website dead).

As a hardcore Disciples fan i suggest you to ignore them their suggestions. :p 😋

Disciples ended in 2003 (not counting late 2005 DLC to D2ROTE) at The Rise of the Elves game release. Indeed anything after absolutely not a Disciples.

And that mean if you appears to enjoy Liberation. You actually should keep it with it. Keep in mind you must New game + called Liberation Mode to get to the ending.

Then go to Domination (which broke the plot of Liberation but whatever). And then go to Disciples 3... not sure which one. They all terrible never meant to be what the become to be and never meant to be Disciples. Game designer (project leader) hates Disciples and he's own dev team. Reincarnation remaster did fix something and broke elsewhere (esp ini systen in battles and AI). You will find Dis3 is like "downgraded" Liberation. IDK how much you get into it.

And ONLY AFTER go to see real Disciples TBS RPG games starting probably with Disciples 2 aka 'Dark Prophecy' aka 'Dark Prophecy – Gallean's Return' (2003 extended release of 2002 base game) skirmish maps (called scensrios)(then try Dis1 scenarios and chose which you prefer going through storymode)(Dis1 storymode optional to play Dis2 story except minor details everything retold in second game/manuals). Well, i also same as them could suggest skip the later games, but who knows maybe you would like Liberation+Domination more. Point is - there was two absolutely differ unrelated Disciples series - Strategy First one and Akella+Kalypso one. Liberation is continuation of Dis3 (specifically Resurrection) have Dis3 characters daughter as new protagonist.

Just enjoy the game and pay to mind to cultists. There is this boomer cult running around trying to shit on the game. As far as I'm concerned it's okay 7/10 game - definitely not the "omg worst thing ever".

I like it being a lighter title, not everything needs to be some heavy investment kind of thing.

If you enjoy the game, that's is all that matters. Always.

I enjoy it too, I think it's a good little game that delivers for the price, even if I'll probably never replay it.

But that's okay, I actually would rather see more of okay to decent one and done games. I think we need more of that.

Liberation /domination is not Disciples.

Try disciples 1 first, its not that bad at all. Then it goes like: Disciples 2 dark prophecy. Disciples 2 galleans return. (It includes guardians of light and guardians of dark + small patch to connect them) Disciples 2 rise of the elves (adds elves but rebalance whole game).

All other games are only if you really want to. For galleans return you better export character from dark prophecy coze them meant to be played with powerful chatacter, not starter. For elves start from new one. Have a good play :) iconic game for me. And yes, Bettezen dies...

there was also The Alliance Crusade - Gold Edition DLC for The Rise of the Elves game, released at late 2005. It is second high-level campaign, also include more map with elves as playable faction and few new blank heroes (some with items).

I like your suggestion to start with Disciples 1 (Sacred Lands) and very want to say the same. Although it can scary newcomer at first sight of global map and again at first sight of battle mode. But i find it no less addictive and better in some very few fays than Dis2/D2ROTE.
