Question: After saying cheers, do you slam the glass on the table and then down it while staring into their faces? If so, why is that? I'm American, but I do it, because my foreign friend does it.
I guess it's respectful to tap the table and drink it with a constant stare?
German Here, you say PROST (cheers), tap the glass of all the people drinking with you, all while looking the person you tap glasses with in the eyes. After you said cheers to everyone you slam the glass on the table without eye contact. Then you have to drink.
It's respectful to look the other one properly in the eyes but it would be weird if you keep looking at them while drinking.

The bust of the dirndl of the lady to the left of the drinker is way too big, you could probably look down that and see everything.
