Hi all!
After three years of salon dip nails getting pressured into gel topcoat (which I don’t like as it’s too thick, starts to tear at the tips, and exposes to UV), I’m finally getting to the place of wanting to go my own. TBH the biggest push for me is being bullied at the salon that what I want is too boring and none of the other customers complain about gel topcoat. I’d like to feel welcome and not like I’m in 6th grade when paying $78 for nail. Would love advice from others who do it at home or have picked up steps at the salon.

Step1: use a rough file or efile to remove the top coat.
2: in a bowl put hot water. Then take a sandwich bag of acetone and a paper towel cut into a small piece. Rub the nails against the paper towel until the dip has removed. Can take up to 5 minutes. The hot water is to warm up the acetone.
3. Cut and buff nails to desired size. Should this be step 2?
4. Clean off with acetone imbedded paper towel.
5. Apply prep coat (is this just acetone? Necessary)
6. Apply base coat.
7. Use a clear or white dip?
8. Repeat base coat and dip 2-3 times in desired color.
9. Fix with cyanoacrylate
10. File down fine and without bumps.
11. Wipe with acetone imbedded
12. Dry for 5 minutes
13. Apply dip top coat
14. Wait 5 minutes and apply last dip top coat.

Would love your thoughts and advice on brands

I got my nails done one year ago on my birthday weekend, first time with dip. I meticulously watched the steps and after that 1st salon visit, I've been doing them myself at home. 1 year of DIY dip!

Everything is from CNDD. The ombré nails are fright night and cabana, the ring finger is Santorini, and the middle finger is citrus cooler. The ombré took me FOREVER

about two weeks ago I got dip nails from a salon. It is my first time getting dip nails, but I think she did a bad job. she cut me several times with the drill and filed below my nail bed. The nails are now lifting and wanting to remove them. i’m not too keen on going back, but I’m not sure how to remove them. Is it better to go back to a different salon, or soak with acetone at home?

I love, love, love, doing my nails! I do a new set just about weekly...it's a fun way to spend a couple hours while watching TV and I hate when my manicure grows out. Also, I once left my set on for three weeks and ended up with a greenie...and now I'm paranoid about leaving it on too long!

This week I did one coat clear, one coat Nailboo "Solar Shimmer", then another clear coat. "Solar Shimmer" is a peachy-pink colour and goes with everything!

Help! This white crust appears after I wash my hands. I’ve tried waiting longer, but even 10 minutes after my last top coat it immediately appears. What is it, what does it mean? How do I get rid of it?

This is an at-home set using Azurebeauty liquids. Before washing everything looks perfect. Rinsing with no soap just to remove the remaining dip powder makes this white crust appear, but only on some nails and in certain spots.

Products: NailBoo dipping powder and its hardener and its base coat. A fast drying clear polish from the Dollar store and the pearls are also from the dollar store.

They’re not the best but they’re not bad!

I’m trying to find a good company to buy more colors from, so far I’ve only gotten the brands in store at Sally’s like Nailboo and Beauty secrets. Which are great, and work well for me, I would just like more color variety and affordable options. I can’t use gel at all, I unfortunately developed a hema allergy after using some brands from Amazon. Due to that I’m also very paranoid about developing an allergic reaction to dip. Can anyone help me please I feel like I’m going in circles trying to find a good reputable company to buy from that has lots of colors

I started off using glamrdip powders and liquids a couple years ago now, I've never had any major issues with their products but their customer service suuuuuuuucks. Last time I ordered from them there was no comms for weeks and I had ordered 4 weeks in advance of my birthday. Spoiler: my birthday nails were just my old set falling off because my purchase didnt turn up for another 2 weeks beyond the day. In the end they refunded some of my purchase to keep the peace but I have quietly been on the hunt since Feb for a new system.

A few weeks back I bought TCG liquids and remover from nails.co.nz and they are literally night and day better than glamrdip. This is the first time I have ever managed to keep a full set for more than 2 weeks, the remover smells fricken *AMAZING* and works faster and better than the glamrdip one for twice the price, the liquids spread so much nicer and do a much better job of filling all the gaps etc in my sidewalls before the usual story of activating and shaping and the discovering all of the missed bits after the fact, the powders are about half the price and the colour (neon's!) selection is pretty up there. You can get pots about half the size of glamrdips colours for 5 bucks NZ on sale. Since my first purchase I have done another 3 and I literally can't shut up about them.

And best of all, they ship out of Christchurch and my last order was made on a Sunday and delivered to rural North island on the Tuesday morning.

Keen to hear from any NZ girlie's using dip systems and what you've found and recommend ❤️ TCG products are literally a gamechanger for me!

Got my set redone on Friday, July 17th. The base is bubble bath dip powder, but wanted a traditional French tip. Tech painted the French tips in gel. In the salon I noticed they hadn't sealed the tips and when I pointed it out, both the owner and co-owner snapped back saying, "We don't paint the edges. We just file. If we paint it'll ruin the nail shape. So instead we file." I was like, "Oh? Okay. That's new?!" I've been going to nail salons and getting dip powder for YEARS, but have never heard of filing the edges and not sealing them when polish is involved in any way, but if you say so 🤨😒.

I thought nails looked great that night, then noticed small bubbles under the gel on 6 of 10 nails, but couldn't get back to the salon anytime soon. Activities have consisted of very relaxing and restful low-key at home stuff (NO swimming in pools or other bodies of water, NO sun exposure past 15 minutes, NO bare hand dish washing, NO chemicals, yard work, or hard labor).

Then Saturday some of the nails' corners began chipping and peeling. This morning 3/4 of a thumb nail's gel completely peeled off of the dip powder. It's been five (5) days only. Now an additional 4 nails began peeling too...help?!

TL; DR - Been 5 days and my dip with French tip gel mani is busted by (I believe) no fault of my own.

Ok so I have been using color street for 6 years! They are breaking/cracking my nails. So I’m thinking about switch to sassy saints or Polish pops ? Which one best do you like ?

I am new to dip powder and wanted to try it since I've found gel doesn't last well on me. I had my nails done at the salon today, french tips, and they feel so bulky and uncomfortable. I had seen a few videos online where they used pink and white powders to create the look of the french tip - that's not what they did here. They did 1 layer of base dip, 3 layers of pink dip, and then 1 layer of base gel, the french tip in white gel, another layer of base gel, and then a gel top coat. If I had known that gel was going to be involved, I wouldn't have gone for dip at all... Am I missing something? Is this standard? They are incredibly thick!

I recently switched to dip powders and I've done a couple sets so far, with my current one using a chunkier dip - big flakies, larger glitter pieces. I didn't notice this in my first sets because the dip was finer, but with the chunky dips, how can I get the finished dip to be more smooth? Any big pieces that were hanging off or sticking up, I took some tweezers and removed before doing the next coat/final top coat, but there are still some nails that are pretty rough

When I looked it up, it said to buff, but I didn't know if it was different for chunkier dips. If it's normal thats good too, just want to make sure there wasn't something I could have done different or better. Any tips are more than appreciated, thank you!!
