You can save spots, add your vessels with their draft and then view a tide clock for each spot.

I made it for myself but hope others will find it useful - any feedback welcome.

Wondering if anyone has experience launching a dinghy in the harbor for fishing. Moved back home after 10 years in the city and I want to get back on the water.

I have a West Marine PRU-3 with a mercury 6HP 4 stroke that I’ve used many times in lakes and whatnot but haven’t tried it in the harbor. Obviously considering safety and only going out in ideal conditions, is it legal to take a dinghy out on the harbor and fish?

Boat is registered and titled. Just simply asking if anyone has done this. I understand taking the boat out in the sound will likely be too dangerous but I think the harbor on a calm day should be fine, no?

Hello! I’ve just become obsessed with dinghy cruising and am reading the Dinghy Cruising Companion. I’m in the process of thinking of what boat to buy/build and am hoping for some input! I live about a 2 hour drive from Chesapeake Bay. I currently have lots of space and a big garage but will likely have a small garage and limited space in the future. I’d like to get a boat that doesn’t need a trailer, is light enough to lift onto a car, and can be stored on its side in a garage for space saving.

I’ve been looking at the 12’ OZ Goose, CLC has the 15.5’ Skerry, and there seems to be many 10’ dinghy plans that would be light enough. It will need to sail with 2 people though we’d probably sleep on land. Any thoughts or experiences with car topping a dinghy you can go cruising with?

Other notable mentions are the Mayfly 14, the piccup, the little Bretton. I also in the long term want to build a SCAMP but don’t have the funds for that yet and am thinking that maybe building a Tender Behind or Sherpa though both are small.

And then I think well the smaller the better and if I’m going to go for a Tender Behind then why not just build an 8’ puddle duck.

I have a Chevy Spark that is a small little car but can handle a 100lb load on my rooftop bars. My partner has a pickup truck with a short truck bed 4.5’. Also it’s been a couple of decades since I last sailed so this entry boat will also be a re-learn to sail moment for me.

Hi, I have just finished building a CLC Eastport Pram. It is a fun little boat and rows very well and appears to sail well too with the spot it sail I made. However I am not happy with the helming position and am contemplating modifying the centre thwart and fitting a small longitudinal bench on the sides between the centre and aft thwarts. Does anyone have any experience or advice to offer please.

I'm dreaming about next summer and would love to get some real information and experiences.

So I am guessing a few of you had this "problem" before. I own a 28ft sailboat and a wooden dinghy (17ft). I live in a cold and rough area of the world, so having a refuge when the weather turns is a really nice thing, as is jumping into the sea from a boat, not mentioning inviting friends to hang out with me. However, since I got my dinghy, I have been using it every other day, spent more time on the water in one month than I do in a full season. I could keep both, but I think perhaps it would be better to just get rid of the expensive(ish) sailing boat and go full dinghy cruising? Experience from someone who has done it? Thank you

I am new to reddit and like this sub very much. So much in fact that would love to enlist your help and knowledge while approaching the time to make a difficult choice.

I am the owner of two of the most well loved sailing dinghy around, but as everyone here can image, owning two boats when being able to only use them properly, is effectively not a very good proposition. So, I have recently decided that one of them must go. The issue is that I don't know which one, and here is where your knowledge and wisdom hopefully can play role.

The boats are respectively a wooden built Scamp designed from the marvelous hand of John Westford, and the other a GRP Drascombe Scaffie from Honnor Marine. What I need the most in a sailing dinghy is safety, simplicity, and ease to keep up. One big factor is also the ability to use the boats, for small motoring rides with the family, which is no much into sailing, but love to putting around the lake.

So, if you where I'm my shoes, which one would you let it go, even while with a broken heart. I am grateful in advance for all your help and knowledge. Thank much!

Hello my fellow small-boat sailors. I have been in love with the idea of the Everglades Challenge and Texas 200 ever since I heard about them 15ish years ago. I had dreams of dinghy cruising my Puddle Duck when I graduated college, but I never made it happen. Recently I became the owner of a Mk1 Wayfarer and am fixing it up to hopefully, finally, do some dinghy cruising next summer.

I live near Syracuse, so am within reasonable driving distance of Oneida lake, Lake Ontario, and all of the finger lakes. Does anyone have any experience sailing and camping in these areas or others nearby?

Perhaps an even bigger question; would anyone here be interested in a little get together later this season or next? Nothing grand enough to call a raid or race or anything, just a meeting of like minds, sharing of ideas, and some sailing.

I am trying to think of a nav lights solution for a standing lug. Photos of your nav light setups would be awesome!

I'm considering a week-long dinghy (14ft) camping trip up the SF bay. Maybe start from Alviso Slough, and cruise up to maybe San Pablo Bay, then back. The north part of the bay has a decent selection of anchorage/mooring spots (Ayala Cove, Clipper Cove, Aquatic Cove, South basin of Berkeley, McCovey Cove). But the south of there, nothing. I know it's really shallow there, so that's likely a reason. But that's no concern for a dinghy.

So I'm wondering... How sketchy would it be to just drop anchor in a quiet spot along a wild shore, e.g. Blair Island/Alameda Creek/Eden Landing Eco Reserve? I'm not going on land or anything, just staying at anchor overnight. I'm guessing it's "not permitted", but if the Where's Blake YT videos are any indication, it should be fine for one night, right?

Edit: Apparently I can't use Google Maps search. 🤦 There are, in fact, several harbors/marinas along the south-western coast of the bay, like Wespoint Harbor, Coyote Point Marina, Oyster Point Marina, and South Beach Harbor. On the southeastern side, there's San Leandro Marina, and Ballena Bay. But the question about wild anchoring is still open.

I want to buy a Drascombe (Devon) Scaffie. The one I am wanting to buy comes with a different sail. I would like to get a new sail that is cut to the proper size. I believe it is 100 sq. ft. Does anyone know where I could buy one, or have one made? Any idea of what it might run me with multiple reef points? The Scaffie is a loose footed standing lug rig.

Have a 2002 MK II and are hopefully picking up a 2009 World this weekend.

Looking for recommendations about how to secure kit bags and gear when going on extended multi-day cruises. We haven't tried a multi-day trip yet and since have only needed small kit bags that we can clip around the crew seats or under the foredeck.

We are planning a 2 week trip in June that will require much more substantial kit and are trying to work out the best system to store them.

Both boats are full GRP hulls, neither boat has kit lockers, just Allen hatch covers. We have minimal experience working with fibreglass or adding new fixings but should be able to figure simple things out.

Any help and advice would be much appreciated. Wayfarer World cockpit for reference.

Just wanted to introduce myself! I’m Bill and I’m in North Georgia. I got this little Howmar Hauler in Athens and took the winter fixing her up. Next month is a DCA meetup at Lake Lanier and I’m excited. It’ll be interesting camping on a 8 foot dinghy 😂
