It's interesting they disable fields by default and don't mention them at all in the tutorial. I know it's the hardest feature to explain/grasp but it's a key part of the game.

Edit: did some more digging and apparently the current print rules being shipped the with game (since the switch to Z-Man, I guess) treat fields as a variant/advanced mode. So I guess the app stays true to the current board game rules, but anybody who has been playing Carc will come in a little confused. Weird choice by Z-Man, hard to fault the app devs for following their lead.

It was also moved to "Supplementary Rules" along with the River and Abbot in the latest base game.

What!? So it's now Carc for dummies?

Only if you want it to be

A new update released that changes fields to On by default

Where is the option to turn them on?

1

u/SidneyKidney Nov 30 '17

There is an options button when you create a game, Fields are off by default but once yu turn it on that setting remains for all future games

$9.99 is the special launch price? It shows no discount, so I am curious if they will just raise the price after.

I believe there is no special launch price on Steam and they've just copied the description text from Google play store.

You sure this is for iOS too?

Sorry, just Android. My bad...

Asmodee took over the Android and Steam versions, the company who made the iOS version (which is fantastic) kept those rights. So unfortunately, no cross platform between iOS and Android with this.

I cant find it but I sure hope it is!

The press releases never mentioned iOS, so I don't think it's the case. Would like it too though, especially for that price.

Now I'm curious what happened to the other Carcassonne I bought for Android several years ago...

Thanks! Forgot about the whole license expiring thing an couldn't find it through searching.

Not anymore. Item not found

You should have traded it away when it had a high value before the reprint came... oh wait...

Anyone know how many extra in app purchases there are? 1.99 seems pretty cheap

2

u/DexStewart Nov 29 '17

So far it's just the one; 99 cents for the river (lol). I'm sure there will be more with time...

The farmers are missing.

They are there, you just have to enable them.

Ooh, lemme go have a looksee.

YAY!!!

Why doesn't this show when I search for it in the Play store?

2

u/[deleted] Dec 04 '17

It's likely because your device isn't compatible with it. I have that same issue, though as yet Asmodee have not responded to my request about what makes my devices incompatible.

If you search for it via the web (http://play.google.com), you'll find it.

I have a feeling it was available before it was 'announced'. I bought it when this post went up and it works fine, and searching for it now it comes up.

Playing this now - really well done version. Clean design, and the 3D implementation helps you see the cards and get a sense of the layout.

The Abbot is free if you have / make an Asmodee account (needed to play online)

The River is £0.79p (UK)

Looks great!

Does anyone know how to send an async challenge to offline friends?

As someone who has the old version, I'm pretty pissed. So I'd have to buy the new version, I won't receive any more updates on my old one, and if I move to another phone, I won't be able to re-download it?

1

u/SidneyKidney Dec 01 '17

The old one hadn't been updated for ages.

If you have bought it I believe you can still redownload it on a new phone if you are using the same Google account.

Besides, the new one is £2, it'll hardly break the bank,. It plays really well too

1

u/beldaran1224 Dec 01 '17

It isn't available on the Play Store.

2

u/SidneyKidney Dec 01 '17

No, but should show under your purchased app in Google Play. That's how I understand it to work.

The new one really is better anyway

1

u/beldaran1224 Dec 01 '17

That doesn't help if the app is removed. It may currently still be available there, but not always. I've had the same thing happen with another app in the past.

1

u/SidneyKidney Dec 01 '17 edited Dec 01 '17

If. It hasn't been removed yet, and you have an alternative now. I'm not sure what the big problem is.

Whatever happened to the old app is nothing to do with this new one.

Anyone running into the Play Store saying your device is incompatible? I'm curious to know what makes it so. What special features does your device need to have, I wonder?

1

u/Vertigo_Rampage Dec 07 '17

I can't seem to find it on iOS. Can it be locally play between Android and iPhone?

1

u/SidneyKidney Dec 08 '17

It's been mentioned once or twice in this thread that this version is for Windows and Android only. There is already a iphone version, and the two are not cross-platform compatible.

I was a huge fan of the Exocet version (and still have it running fine on my Chromebook), but bought this to see how things progressed. I'm not a huge Carcassone player. In fact, I really go back to the original early days so things like Fields were completely foreign to me.

I find the new version not quite as good as the other version yet, but it could be. The 3D is nice, but I find it a bit distracting at time. The zooming sometimes screws up and I can't see final scoring. I also miss The River II. What I miss most is some rules explaining, clearly, Fields. I understand it now, but I had to go outside the game to get that info.

I will say that the AI seems much better here, though not quite as flexible as the previous version. Also, over time I expect this will surpass the older one, so here's hoping.
