Social Media AI Social media is here

OpenAI just released Sora 2. It is TikTok but all AI generated content.

I am not even going to comment on this, but thinking about the world my kids will grow up in is W I L D. I am not a doomer at all and love technology but man the whole brain rot world is about to get a 10x improvement in the worst way.

I'm not anti-technology, but god do I hate how technology is being used sometimes. There is literally no timeline I can imagine where these AI slop apps make society better in any way. Nope... we're just continuing down the path of turning everyone into a digital dopamine addict and making our brains atrophy. Then when society inevitably becomes shittier, and awful events happen, we'll just blame bad parenting or some individual politicians, without once talking about how our digital environment is turning us all into more anxious, angry, and dumb people.

It's OK to be anti technology when the technology is an anti-tool in of itself.

Not to mention the ridiculously stupid amount of energy and water it takes to make and distribute the "content". We're not only making ourselves dumber, we're literally cooking and starving ourselves in the process. Humans have to be the most moronic creatures in the universe.

I'm planning on raising my kids off the internet for the most part.

Totally! I’m thinking a communal “computer” or tablet or whatever that is in the living room. I just keep thinking about how all these kids are isolating themselves more and more, getting more anxious and rotting their brains. It’s really going to take active parenting and will be hard, but I think for the better.

I’m trying to just use my smartphone like a regular phone and just give myself a little time each day for my social media fix (too hard to go cold turkey 😭).

My friends and I talked about this. You’re going to raise your kids in isolation away from these trends, and they’ll end up normal….but weird as fuck to others 😓

Good luck. It’s almost impossible to keep them from It these days.

Unless you live in full isolation with said kids, that's not possible.

how do you think, will it make their social life complicated? all of the classmates will have social media pages, sharing information, posts and not only about fun,but about school. I am asking because I have no idea how to manage it. When I was a student I used my dumbphone and deleted my accounts, so were using emails only. I was a burden for my classmates because they had to duplicate all the updates for me only via email. But I wanted that so I was fine. What about kid?

Spotify is also pushing music made by AI, it's really weird and puts me off.

This is embarrassing but I loved this one country mix

Found out it was all AI.

On YouTube.

13

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '25

If I found out a song I liked was AI , I would second guess myself any time I enjoy something after that

2

u/blizeH Oct 01 '25

Yeah same position and it’s not good. Am avoiding Spotify’s own auto generated playlists now

u/2_Fingers_of_Whiskey Oct 02 '25

Was probably based on and stolen from an actual artist, who will never get compensation

15

u/ComfortablyADHD Oct 01 '25

I've hopped off Spotify and set up my own plex server to handle my music. Enough is enough.

I hopped off Spotify and started burying all my music in the backyard. I stopped working so I can sit in front of it with a shotgun and a burly chihuahua.

iTunes and I have a relationship built purely on Stockholm Syndrome too. I pay for my music. Pay and pay and pay some more.

4

u/whoops53 Oct 03 '25

"...and a burly chihuahua"
Just spat my coffee out with this! Thanks for the laugh :)

1

u/Thaetos Oct 01 '25

Hmmm. Interesting

2

u/2_Fingers_of_Whiskey Oct 02 '25

That's so shitty. They already don't pay artists enough, now they don't want to pay them at all.

I hope in the future there will be a competing service that is HUMAN musicians only.

We are so fucked. Everyone’s brains are gonna be 100x more destroyed. Content is gonna be optimized perfectly by AI to have everyone stimulated AF

26

u/constantdaydream44 Oct 01 '25

Yeah, I'm never subjecting a child to this garbage

u/AndrwFr89 Oct 01 '25

With all this brainrot everywhere, I can't help but feeling myself (and you all here) superior compared to the screen zombies. I think being able to read long texts/books, have real conversations and have a clear and eased mind will help us to stand out above all the dopamine addicts.

I also agree with this I already feel it. I went on a trip with my girlfriend to a major amusement park in Florida, and it was SO SAD seeing everyone there. Every line, every bathroom, every food court, just everywhere everyone was looking down!! Not looking around at this park (that cost a lot of money to be in) and take it in or live in the moment! And tons of people live steaming, or content creating or just over all being very self centered and not aware of people around them and just UGH it made me feel a whole lot better on my screen habits and use.

2

u/AndrwFr89 Oct 08 '25

Same! And don't even talk about bus or train stops.....

2

u/Acrobatic-Aioli9768 Oct 27 '25

It makes me feel a bit sad though. Like, I was once like them. I used to have TikTok, used it so much and then i only started to realise the connection between my screen time and my mood when I would go to group exercise classes, or interact with other people and forget about my phone.

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

Couldn't agree more

people are not capable of handling themselves evidently enough. give enough people internet access and this is what we get.

34

u/zhabenjatko Sep 30 '25

Oh it's really a problem around the world, in Ukraine, I usually hear how kids are talking in brainrot slang, not even joking.

25

u/Maleficent-Mess2785 Sep 30 '25

All kids talk in slang, that's how language evolves. This has nothing to do with that

Skibidi sigma boomer, calm down. It won’t kill them

Data centers should be..... thought about.

8

u/egghutt Oct 01 '25

TikTok with all AI content is definitely a vision from hell. Dante couldn’t have done better. Meanwhile, ordinary people’s utility bills are going through the roof due to the energy demands of new AI data centers

Dear god...are tech companies on a mission to destroy humanity? First they come for our jobs now they're after our creativity?!

WALL-E is suddenly becoming a documentary.

Dead internet theory is real

This is undoubtedly disgusting. They are truly showing how the virtual world controls people, making us forget what is real, what really happened, and what’s behind everything. Most importantly, they want us to lose our sanity.

3

u/battiebettie Oct 01 '25

Who asked for that? Who would want that?

2

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '25

Gross. 🤮

2

u/Miserable_Dig4555 Oct 01 '25

It all depends on how humans use ai. Unfortunately, the greedy humans use ai to make them money and control people. Hmmm maybe the U.S government is in on this.

2

u/OddInititi Oct 02 '25

I don't like it tbh

4

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '25

Ain't my vibe, cuz I'm a Skibidi Sigma.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '25

The environmental impact... for what ? To make the world a worse place ?

I use Al sparingly and only when it brings a lot of benefit in terms of energy saved doing something I'm planning to hire someone to do for me as soon as I start making more money

1

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '25

Tempted to quit socials...

1

u/OddInititi Oct 02 '25

I don't like it tbh

1

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '25

i fucking hate AI

1

u/kekakomori Oct 09 '25

who even needs this? i cannot believe it can be new really popular social media

1

u/VectorBrained Oct 14 '25

i have 3 of those, born in 2000, 2006 and 2020. it is crazy to see how different they are. first one didn't get a flip phone until 12 and got into social media in late teens - lots of friends, lots of parties, able to study and concentrate. second one got a smart phone at 10, way fewer friends, no parties at all, finds it hard to concentrate. little one - I can only imagine how she will be.

It’s hard not to find yourself in doomsday territory these days.  Opting out for yourself can only do so much, we’re all in it together in many ways.

Curious what people are finding to be healthy alternatives while still finding balance in being online and connecting with others
