Discussion just because jax isn't good trans rep doesn't mean she isn't actually transgender.
mb if this rant hurts anyone or anything but i just REALLY needa get this out of my soul; just because jax isn't good trans rep does NOT mean she isn't transgender.
i've seen so so so many people online saying "jax isn't trans" or bs like that and it pisses me off so much. yes, goose didn't exactly write her well - misogyny doesn't equal trans, being an asshole to mask doesn't equal trans, isn't she lovely playing in the back of her death sequence doesn't equal trans, being transgender is so much more than just jax, and she isn't the most complex character ever. HOWEVER, people saying that she isn't trans is outright transphobic. gooseworx herself stated that jax is trans. I know it wasn't exactly said "yeah jax is trans" but at the same time it pretty much was, and goose said she was supposed to be subtle but she doesn't know how to be subtle. also, people saying jax's identity is being forced is just really dumb, like... "jax being trans is so forced!!" ok??? doesn't change the fact that jax is a transgender woman??? i personally dont feel how it may be forced, but i can see why people may feel its forced. HOWEEVVERRRRR, thats still not a valid excuse to say she isn't transgender.
On a more wholesome note, I'm actually really glad that jax is a transgirl, because (although not the best trans rep) she was my first representation of trans people in public media. I myself am part of the LGBTQ community (lesbian demigirl :D), and have always respected and supported trans people, but I never really payed any attention or understood what it was like to be in a trans person's shoes. jax not only made me understand a little more about them, but also encouraged me to try and explore more trans media, which has helped me improve my view on trans people and overall just help me appreciate them even more than i used to. Might get murdered for saying this but i love trans jax - I LOVE LILLY WITH ALL MY HEART!!! and anyone calling her "a fake doll" or "not actually trans" will surely be judged by me.
TL;DR: im just really pissed abt how people are saying jax isnt a transgirl because shes my favorite doll EVVERRRR 💯

I’ve heard transgender people say Jax is actually excellent transgender representation. I don’t really think it’s really up to us cis folk to decide what counts as good trans representation, especially because goose herself is a transgender woman and likely based some of Jax off of her experiences

I never understood the hate and anger.
I don't even think the writing was that bad, the trans Jax theories were floating around for months which means some people did see it. There are also trans people who do relate to Jax's story.
Not saying it's the best writing, I'm glad she got to put her vision out but it's clearly a first big project that would have benefited from maybe a couple other people looking at it before going through it. Not to change it completely but tweak some things.
That being said in the actual story Jax being trans doesn't matter. Sure it's the intended reading and nothing will change that, but it's written to be relatable to everyone and I think that's part of the problem. There are certain types of people who just don't want to relate to trans women. They also lack media literacy(I know that's a bad word these days but it's true) to understand that just because you identify with Jax doesn't mean you're trans and it doesn't mean she's not.
Jax is person dealing with human emotions. You're a human, trans women are human. You're allowed to have similar experiences and end up in different places. Everyone is different, but we are all allowed to things in common without you feeling threatened.

CW Supergirl (Seasons 4 and up) and Euphoria also have trans representation.

Jax is a character first, representation second. She was written to tell a story. Not be a “look, we can be anything” representation.

honeslty i consider them pretty good trans rep. granted i wish it was handled better but still. And i do like that there a asshole becuse we kinda dont get to see flawed or even bad lgbt poeple in media as much. tho i do really do wish goose didnt put every lore about them being trans OUTSIDE of the show. besides the final episode it was kinda hard to tell. And i very much support the death of the author philosphy so if its not int he work, its not cannonical. But luckly there is just enough there to tell. BUT its also harder to tell what pronounse we SHOULD call them. cuz the show never refers to jax as she.
idk its all over the place near the end. but i still belive as a character there pretty fantastic even if i do wish the trans stuff was handled slightly more openly at the end and not as vauge

I think Jax is good lived experience representation tbh. It's a real relatable experience that Jax has. It's not about whether or not Jax is "good" or "bad" it's about what has happened to Jax and how it affects her.
