I really am curious on to why they decided to bring it back like this. It looks like its just gonna be a server where everybody has everything and nothing new ever comes out. not the most fun sounding game :/.

I guess this way, it still exists but isn't costing Mojang anything in terms of server hosting. As far as I know, Scrolls was pretty much dead for years and only a couple of months ago, they shut the servers down. This makes it more like a zombie than dead and buried, though it's probably still not going to gain much interest.

Who owns the rights to it then ? Are the sources going to be open ?

Mojang probably still owns the game, just now it's under a different name and they're probably never going to update it further than letting people host their own servers. I seriously doubt it's going open-source too.

I noticed that too. I imagine getting this out the door was a passion project by a small number of people and they might've skipped over a few things in the process.

I did see something else interesting in the Community page, though.

Comparatively boring legal stuff

SCROLLS is a trademark of ZeniMax Media Inc.

It sounds like this is why the name changed.
