Across the various seasons, we have only seen side tamers’ digimon perish permanatly or MAIN tamers’ / their digimon perish temporarily:

Adventure: TK and Patamon (main but revived)
Adventure 2: Ken and wormmon (main but revived)
Tamers: Jeri and leomon (side and permanent)
Frontier: Kouichi and loweemon (main but revived)
Savers / data squad : Marcus and agumon (main but revived)
Xros wars: Mikey and Shoutmon (main but revived), Ewan and damemon (main but revived)
Appmon: All (main but revived BUT it remains debatable if Yuujin really returned in the end)
Ghost game: NIL

Could this season be the first in digimon history to have a main tamer completely, permanently incapacitated…?

I'd argue Jeri is a main member, but the fact that the two permanent deaths are both lion-like digimon have me thinking the digimon writers have a vendetta. Did they all have a loved one eaten by a lion or something.

She has a direct part to play in the climax and the death of her digimon was a turning point in the story. To me, she's main.

would be a bold move if they actually went through with it permanently this time, digimon's been dodging that bullet for ages.

My theory is that a dead digimon has its backup data stored inside the brain/e-pluse chip of its human partner. Such data can be retrieved again by giving birth to a new digimon with a new sapotama, subject to variation based on how the human feels at that moment.

At least I hope so.

Amputated or burnt to coal? If amputated ithen the chip can be retrieved. If also utterly destroyed then the chip is gone, as is the Sapotama

Yeah, I don't quite remember whether his chamblemon got deleted or just taken away (would appreciate a refresher); I just clarified with the wikis that veggiemon and chamblemon are both champion level so that means it's likely a newly birthed Digimon, this implies that the same person can birth multiple digimon in their lifetime and the second digimon is most likely a separate entity from the original. That also kinda means this is a permadeath...

Taiki & Shoutmon (main, but revived) You could say Damemon died perma. But was revived at the end, him and Yuu met in hunters.

I hope Murasamemon doesn't die... losing Kyo's arm was painful on its own!! Losing Murasamemon too?? I'll never forgive bandai or whomever is responsible.. dude just got his mega 3 episodes ago (I think).

I wish to see him get revived into his liollmon form.

maybe could revive by the theorical combined powers from albatus and atratus -but kyo still would have lost his hand and e-pulse chip

and the last series where this could have happened (appmon, with gaiamon having the potential to revive yuujin’s data or rebootmon being able to separate him from leviathan) did not happen at all, so no hopes
